Today I went up in the AAC Cessna 152 aerobat, and did this thing called ribbon cutting. Basically what you do is ( in our case chuck a toilet role ;) ) out the window and try cut it with the aircraft ( normally the wing ) during this you normally pull around 3 "“ 4 G's. It sounds quite bizarre but it is actually really fun. Also on the way back we did an aileron role.

Has anyone else ever done this ?

Regards Scott

Seen it done by a Hughes 500 flown by a deer pilot in the early 80's at new Plymouth airshow. He turned that machine inside out - very good to watch.

Its accually called streamer cutting, its a simple yet complicated procedure where you level off at 3,000 drop a toilet roll out the window and try and cut the roll with the wings as many times as possible before you reach 1,000 feet, you pull about 3-4 g's. Ive done it about 3 times in a piper warrior, and im going to be doing it again on the 13th as part of the Kaitaia Aero club flying competition day.

Yip, I did it last weekend :) Unfortunately we only had really budget loo paper ($10 for about 20  ) so it sometimes broke apart once you put it out the window.

What was the aileron roll like?

aileron roll was cool.

We used 1500 as a Floor for this and 4000 as the start.

I managed to get it 7 times with 2 rolls

7 times?! Nice one Scott!(But I guess you did have an extra 1000ft with which to dive - I couldn't be bothered climbing up there  (JZT is a bit gutless)
