Earlier this evening, a black helicopter was circling around Half Moon Bay nice and low, then it came down even lower to around what looks like 50 feet and hovered for a good 10-15 minutes by the cliff edge:

Anyone know why it was there- they didn't make any calls on the MBC other than their location. All of a sudden they just zoomed off towards Mechanics Bay and that was the last I heard of them- surely if someone had fallen into the water, the Westpac chopper would have been up here instead?

Also, I can't make out any registration on the chopper, and I failed to catch their callsign on the scanner, but when I zoom in on these pictures, it looks like it says 'POLICE 2' on the side. Could anyone confirm this?

Its def Police 2, the arent required to have a ZK-*** reg on their aircraft. Police 1, the conventional blue and white squirel is in maintainence at the moment. I dont know what happened to "police 2" that was blue and white also though......

That is "Police 2" it has been fully refurbed and is currently the only "Eagle" at the moment while "Police 1" is having a new paint job and full refurb completed on it as well.

Its HeliLink/Police's way of keeping a low key eye in the sky presence over NZ.
