Chinnooks are awesome, I saw one crusin round stonehenge when I was in england.

Dunno if they realise that it's a helicopter not an aeroplane though????

That commenter really annoyed me, talked such drivel in that video.

However, Chinooks really are cool. I always used to hear them fly over in England and they produce such a distinctive noise. I've also been inside one on the ground at an airshow, reminds me very much of the C-130.

They fly over my house every day. As do T4s, Awacs 767s etc. Also see a lot of F15s and F2s. :D

Yup. From Tauranga, but been living here (Japan) a while. Including a stint working for the Japanese Air Self Defense Forces.

Interesting stuff - would be great if you could post some RW shots of some JASDF a/c sometime if you have any ...and some info on what you did if you feel inclined. :)

Will do. Can't post any close-up stuff. F2 is, (according to the pilots) a bit crappy. They have some nice AAM tech though, and are just installing the latest (PAC3) version of the Patriot, mainly because the main AWACS base is within missile range of North Korea (and incidentally, less than 3 clicks from my house.)

I also spent some time living on a military base in Saudi Arabia as a teenager, just prior to the gulf war. Got to see English Electric Lightnings, Tornados, F5s, F15s.... and on one memorable occasion, saw Israeli F15s scream in over an unprotected area just to prove to the Saudis that they could (never made it to the media). Saw them testing a patriot (bloody loud that was!).

The F2 does have *some* stealthy aspects. But it also has problems with the wing. Pilots aren't that fond of it.

Some time between 85 and 87. I was 15 at the time, so don't quote me on the "F15" ish ness of them. They were Israeli aircraft and the guys on base told me later they were F15s. Whatever they were... they were bloody loud, and bloody fast!

In that case they could have been on their way to Iraq to hit Saddams reactor the strike package would've had F-15 escorts, F4 SAM suppression and F-16s for the strike.

Could have been - we were in the right area: NW Saudi. The area was actually attacked by Iraq in the gulf war.
