If your really into Tiger Moths, you should take a 2.5 hour drive south of Wanaka to Mandeville. There features the Croydon Aircraft Company (think thats what they are called). I'm pretty sure they restored this particular Tiger Moth too (ZKALJ). They've got a MASSIVE hanger full of old school aircraft and some more modern day micolights as well. Mandeville aerodrome is a great wee place to head to. 800m of grass strip (NZVL) and a lovely restaurant makes a perfect excuse for a coffee on a hot summers afternoon. Flying time is less than 15 minutes from Invercargill which is great, there have been times when a few of us have just jumped in a machine and headed up there for a 'coke' :) Of course NO consumption of Alcohol - well not the pilot anyway. It truly is a fasinating place to visit, you learn so much about the construction and techniques used to rebuild and repair such aircraft - Its a must visit :)
