Breaking news :S
I saw five police cars blast past me on the way to work, and wondered what was up.. Then I found out shortly after two Jetstream pilots had been stabbed and a bomb threat made on an aircraft that landed at Christchurch this morning:

As I said on another forum - I hope the dog chewed her really well

Cavity searches will be next on the agenda for airport security I'm pretty sure.

Remember the hijacking attempt of the Ar NZ plane up at Fiji I think it was? The pilot 'subdued' the hijacker with a bottle of Teachers across the back of the head - bring back the drinks service on domestic flights!!!

The sad thing is that no matter what securtiy is installed on the smaller regional planes the pilots will always be exposed to these kind of idiots. No knife? I'm sure there are plenty of parts of the cabin you could rip off and fabricate into a weapon.

TV3 now has video footage available online.
Looks like it must have landed on rwy 11. Would have been an interesting landing as NZCH is blowing over 20 knots from the 070 most of the morning.

I too hope the dog ripped into her.

I guess this means the end of no security/ or light security/ at NZ's regional airports..

Sad thing that happend. The good thing is that everyone's safe.

What gets on my nerve, is things like this have to happen before they put measures in place to stop it from happening again...next time it could be a lot worse.

Far out- this is crazy news!

Who on earth would hijack a 1900 out of Woodbourne? I mean what could possibly have been a motive, and how would stabbing both pilots help the lady get what she wanted?? She must have been high on drugs or something..

EDIT: The aircraft looks like a Jetstream 31, see video here.

EDIT 2: According to an updated news report here, the aircraft in question was Air National's ZK-ECP. I doubt I'll be ever to ask a flight attendant "could I have a quick peek in the cockpit?" ever again now :(

Hey Guys

From what i have heard it was a Jetstream 32 (Air National) and it was flying a route for air new zealand.
Will this bring more security for regional flights?

Cheers
Daniel

The articles I've read said it was an Air National Jetstream. From the video it looks like a J32.

I don't really get why people do this sort of stuff - doesnt appear to have been much of a motive, and I dont see her getting any benefits out of it. I also dont see any benefits for anyone else, and this probably will mean tighter security and stuff.

On another note - I have not heard about any passengers getting up to help overpower this crazy lady ??

Security in NZ is a bit crazy at the moment. For instance, if you board an aircraft through certain gates at some airports, you have to go through security and if you board it through others, you don't. I've never figured this out. I know the rule is that any a/c carrying over 100 pax must have screening, but are you telling me an ATR/Q300 can't do any damage? Fly out of Christchurch on an ATR and you might get screened, or you might not, depending on which gate you board through. Fly out of Palmy on an ATR and you'll never get screened. I just don't get the inconsistency, so this might actually clear that issue up.

On the other hand, I'm sure it will serve as yet another example of 99% of the population being punished for something 1% of the population do. To this woman (and all other hijackers who are collectively destroying aviation), I say "Good on you, humans" with a huge dose of sarcasm.

Wow, that article is really badly written.. Air National don't have Beechcraft's.. The service wasn't operated by ANZ, just chartered by them. He could've done some research..
