Navy chopper in emergency landing
Stuff.co.nz | Monday, 11 February 2008

A Navy helicopter had to make an emergency landing this afternoon after instruments in the cockpit indicated a gearbox failure.

A Navy Seasprite helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing at Wenderholm Regional park, north of Auckland, this afternoon.

Technicians have been sent from Whenuapai Airbase to inspect the helicopter, Radio New Zealand reported.

Instruments in the cockpit indicated the helicopter may have had an overheated gearbox.

Two fire engines and five police cars were called to the scene.

Security guards may be posted if the helicopter is not able to take off tonight, a Defence Force spokesperson said.

Good thing it was able to make a safe landing, your thread title had me a bit worried there!

Now that will be why she hasn't been flying over my work recently. I hear and see her everyday out here in Albany. Looks like a bit of repairs are in order judging by the photos. Good to hear noone was hurt.
