Cheap Palmy North flights plan on the rocks
Ozjet's planned flights to and from Palmerston North are set to be scrapped, with Air Nauru trying to buy the company out
27 March 2008
Ozjet has indicated it will cancel its new trans-Tasman service from Palmerston North.

The Australian airline was in talks with Air Nauru to use its planes for the flights to Brisbane and Sydney, which were due to take off on Monday.

However, it is understood Air Nauru has pulled out of the deal and is now proposing to buy Ozjet.

Airport Chief Executive Garry Goodman says the news will be devastating for the whole region.[/quote]

Ozjet arent the best airline ever, they use old 737 200s and i think have had financial trouble before.

The low cost model Ozjet would be using would be unsuccessful here anyway.

Pacific Blue knows this, and they are targeting themselves just above the LCC market.
Freedom tried the LCC model, and NZ is killing them (then again, they only ever existed to kill Kiwi off, rather than as a logical extension of NZ's service).

The LCC model works in the US and Europe because they have enough passengers to justify it. New Zealand does not.
We will have to wait and see about Australia, I have my doubts about Tiger succeeding there.

Regardless, PMR sucks as a base for stuff. Like I said in this thread, airports in NZ can't justify INTL service, and neither can PMR.

Plus Ozjet looks a bit dodgy and I believe that they have had financial trouble in the past.

Also, I don't think Ozjet's flights were ever bookable from PMR.
They definitely aren't at the present moment, put it that way.

I call FAIL! :P

Cheers
Anthony

Not in my opinion.
If you are referring to Freedom, it's common knowledge that NZ is killing the brand and that they aren't keen to keep HLZ as a INTL destination.

Kiwi operated from HLZ and did okay, but Freedom and a combination of other things killed them (read Dogfight by Ewan Wilson the ex-CEO if you don't already know about this. That book is  .)

This one of the reasons NZ invests in their regional network (NZM, RLK, EAG) - to offer connections to international flights.
They do this because they know that the airports here just can't make INTL service profitable - but there's another thread for this (it's here).
Note that NZ say this in their annual report. I have it sitting in front of me at this moment and I will dig it up on their site too.

Cheers
