Looks like it's becoming it's name, just a dream :o I for one don't mind it having delays, I think it looks just as ugly as the A380.

Boeing delays 787 Dreamliner for third time

Air New Zealand is seeking compensation from aircraft manufacturer Boeing over delays in the delivery of eight 787-9 planes.

Air NZ said it received confirmation today from Boeing that the 787-9 aircraft, originally expected to begin arriving at the end of 2010, were not likely to be delivered until early 2012.

The aircraft were on "firm order" and Air NZ would be "entering into compensation discussions" due to the delay.

Air NZ chief financial officer Rob McDonald said the airline had the flexibility to "ensure no capacity shortfall arises".

"However, we are yet to determine if there will be any impact on our network expansion plans. We are obviously very disappointed that in the current environment of high jet fuel prices, we will not be able to take advantage of the significantly improved economics that this aircraft will provide in the timeframes we initially expected."

Air NZ also has four 777-300ER aircraft on order from Boeing which will be delivered on schedule, in 2010 and 2011.

This delivery will enable Air NZ to grow capacity over the period as planned.

The 787-9 will have a range capability of around 13,000km and a 280-seat capacity. The carbon-composite plane promises to cut fuel costs by 20 per cent.

The news of delays comes on the back of Airbus chief executive Tom Enders visit to New Zealand.

In Auckland for a meet and greet visit yesterday, Mr Enders offered sympathy to rival Boeing, The New Zealand Herald reported.

"We have reason to be humble "“ we had a big screwup on the 380. It underlines how complex building large commercial aircraft is particularly if you want to integrate a lot of new technologies and advances."

And again: More Dreamliner delays for Air NZ

Further production delays mean Air New Zealand now won't see the first of its new Boeing 787-9 "Dreamliner" jets till the first quarter of 2013 - more than two years later than originally planned.

"Air New Zealand has had confirmation from Boeing that it can expect further delays in the delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 aircraft," a statement from Air New Zealand said today.

Air New Zealand has eight of the aircraft on firm order. The first delivery was initially expected around the end of 2010, but in April Boeing said the delivery of the first aircraft was likely in early 2012. Now a further 12 months has been added to the timeframe.

Discussions between Boeing and Air New Zealand over compensation for the delays have been under way for some time. Air NZ said today it continued to "progress" those discussions.

No specific reason was given today for the further delay, but Boeing has previously outlined a range of reasons including shortage of materials, problems completing software and supply chain difficulties. More recently there was a strike, followed by the need to replace a number of structurally important fasteners that had been incorrectly installed.

The Dreamliner was originally supposed to have its first flight last year, but this has now been pushed back to next year, with the first deliveries not till 2010.

More than 900 of the jets have been ordered worldwide.

Air New Zealand also has four 777-300ER aircraft on order from Boeing which will be delivered in 2010 and 2011. The first delivery remains on schedule.
