Something to set the cat amongst the pidgeons.

Which is the WORST airline that you have experienced, worldwide???

To start the ball rolling,
1. Air Baltic (Latvian).
2. Air Kenya
3. Garuda Indonesian.

Smooth landings.

Im interested why you have Air New Zealand listed. Sure, Air New Zealand used to be pretty crappy- but they have definently upped there standard on long hauls- some even say close to the Standard of Singapore Airlines...Can agree with Zeal 320 and domestic services though..

1- Air Pacific
2- Ansett
3- Tiger
4- Qantas New Zealand/Jetconnect
5- Zeal 320

How many years ago was that? I've only read positive reviews on the airline since their major restructuring in 2003, and am flying with them to London in July!

Mine would be:

1. JAL (really bad food and attendants who didn't understand english properly)
2. Garuda (really bad food and attendants who didn't understand english properly)

...and thats all I can think of, every other airline I've flown with was either fine/ I was too young to care when I flew with them :)

Ansett Australia

First thing we found was after an intl arrival, we went to the domestic check in counter to be told "oh your flight has been cancelled and you're now on the later flight". That was it. No 'sorry' no 'this is why it's been cancelled' just 'it's been cancelled'. So we sat around in the domestic terminal for I can't remember how long while we waited on the next flight.

Aircraft (B733) seemed in pretty average condition, headsets they gave us didn't work all the time, 'meal' was a pretty ghastly sandwich that was glad-wrapped, and the landing was awful. Touchdown.... long wait.... then slamming on the brakes as hard as possible so the whole cabin resonanted at around 150Hz... then a friendly "Landies and gentlemen, welcome to Canberra" as though this kind of thing was standard practice.

Definitely the worst airline I've flown on. Granted, this was the only time I flew with them.

The other would be Air NZ domestic back in the early days of Ansett before they had expanded into the provinces. Simply for the obvious marked difference in service between routes that were also served by Ansett (where you got packaged meals) and routes that were not served by Ansett (where you got a piece of cheese). I really hate that kind of differentiation, especially when you know it's because they don't need to try because you're stuck with them as a carrier on this sector.

The RNZAF is not an Airline so it does not count. Given that nobody "pays" to fly on RNZAF flights you can hardly complain !!

Well, from personal experience the worst airline I have honestly flown on, by far, would have to be American Airlines. Interior was in a terrible state, flight attendants treated you like you were diseased, bad food even by airline standards etc.

To put it in perspective, I've flown Egypt Air and Air Zimbabwe before and I would happily take either of them over AA any day. (although admittedly Air Zimbabwe have probably gone downhill since I flew with them)

Air Adriatic (Croatian) was pretty scruffy too, but to be fair I didn't really care because the plane was an MD-80 which I'd always wanted to fly on, and we disembarked down the air stairs under the rear fuselage which was an added bonus. :P (that's my inner aeroplane nerdiness coming through right there!)

I totally agree with that one 100% Dude!!! i remember getting on an AA flight to Miami i think and i swear that the seats had been chewed at by dogs, im not kidding! stuffing and foam was coming out of the dam things! and the plane it self? dont ask... i swear we could hear nuts and bolts unthreading themselves below the cargo hold on departure and arrival, scary sh#t i tell ya! i would also put ANZ domestic on there too i think, dam there service is shocking! you know it wouldnt hurt to smile in a while or when they do at least make it look genuine, and may i ask where do they find there staff.....retirement villages? Maybe Helen Clark was there teacher for there training seminar...

Origin Pacific
Soundsair (Albeit in a 40 knot southerly, but the pilot was a dick as well)
Malaysian Airlines. Everything about economy was cr@p, but business class food and seats etc looked great (Mum and dad went business).

I never had a problem with origin, I thought they were a really good airline, apart from the being a reasonably tall bugger squashed into a J31

I have never really had bad experiences except on Air New Zealand.
It was on a flight from Osaka to Auckland on a 767 300.
There was no personal TVs and so the only real entertainment was the movies on the big screen and music.
I plugged my headphones in i could hear nothing even when i went to every channel. I went to the cabin crew and told them the problem and the only said "here" and passed me some other headphones. I went back to my seat and also noticed the floor was quite wet at the back of the plane. I plugged in the headphones and there was still nothing. I went back again and said they will try something else and so i went back to my seat. Next minute the captain mucked around with the electrics and the lights went off and then came back on. I think they reset something.
There was still no sound and so the cabin crew gave me a $30 inflight duty free voucher. I got a model 747 :P
During all of this i found the cabin crew basically didnt give a toss.

I also would have to put Qantas-Jetconnect on my list just because of their fleet.

Cheers

what's wrong with 737's?

Anyway I never had any bad experiences but then again going to Malaysia form Auckland MAS makes everyone put down they're blinds so you can "get adjusted to the time difference". Our friends who live in Malaysia and have been on that flight many times say the always do it so they don't have to do as much work.

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

1. Burma Airways- Watched a fat cockroach crawl up the crew cabin door on a flight from Bangkok to Rangoon
2. United Airlines- 4 hour delay and terrible food
3. American Airlines- flyingkiwi and funkymonkeys posts said it all

I've flown with Malaysian and thought they were great- the cabin crew were really nice and friendly, and the good was alright, with both eastern/western options on the menu.

Ditto, glad ANZ are getting rid of the 76's. Can't wait to fly the 787!

The cabin crew on my flight really didn't care at all, the food gave me diarrhoea, the room they put us in between flights (They made me go as an UM even though I paid an adult fare) was tiny and stank of smoke. The cabin was getting really old and tired, and did I mention the terrible food?

Air New Zealand - Press Release wrote:B 767 Refresh

The first part of a two stage project to refresh the cabin interiors of the five Boeing 767s owned by Air New Zealand is also near completion.

The enhancement to the B767 fleet follows the significant upgrade of Air New Zealand's B747 and the introduction of the new B777 aircraft.

"The challenge was not to over-invest in these aircraft which have significantly less time left in the Air New Zealand fleet, but to try and create a similar look to the B747s and B777s on our fleet," said Mr Sims.

"We delighted with the results so far and the changes, although relatively small, have been very well received by our customers."

Stage one of the project sees the carpets, seat covers and curtains being replaced to ensure an improved look and feel in the cabin. This work is being undertaken during scheduled maintenance downtime and will be completed by July.

"Later in the year there will be changes to the galleys, lavatories and additional IFE screens fitted through Economy class to improve visibility for customers," said Mr Sims.

The two leased B767 aircraft, ZK-NCH and ZK-NCO, will continue with existing interiors until they exit the fleet in October 2006 and August 2007 respectively.

For more see here.

This is pretty old news, the press release is just about two years old; I'd be suprised if stage two is done, but it just might be, I don't follow this often. :)

Well that may not be happening for a while because of the 787 delay. I talked to an Air NZ Pilot on saturday and he said they may be looking at leasing some 767s and at this stage the 767s will be kept longer.
