I thought I'd do what happytraveller did and create a topic like his but what was has been your best airline?

Singapore.
Singapore.
Singapore.
Singapore.

They are on my top list (for all four of their flights I went on) as they were by far the best. Just everything in general about them.

P.S. sorry if this topic has already be discussed

Singapore is not as good as they used to be, getting too popular I think.

Malaysian and Thai are my top two at the moment, but interesting that the favourites all seem to be from the Asian area.

Lot of people saying that Emirates are good too, but I have not flown with them for ages, and they delayed my bag last time anyway. AirNZ seem to be much improved recently too, long haul is certainly much better than it used to be. Worst thing with AirNZ seems to be their new uniforms. I keep thinking that instead of throwing out my old clothes, that I should donate them to AirNZ.

So Malaysian and Thai get my votes.

smooth landings.

If you have to fly economy class long-distance a lot like me, "best airline" sounds a bit like "best car repo firm", or "best loanshark operation".
But I'd have to say Air New Zealand are pretty good, especially compared to almost every US Airline I've flown on.

Emirates just because I get a wake up call from their A345 almost every morning (depends if it comes in from the North to land in CHC).
Going by personal experience, I only have one choice, Air New Zealand.

Off topic, but does CHC get 744s anymore? I just thought about it, and haven't ever seen one landing at CHC, I've seen them at the gates when I was little, but haven't been there recently to see. Never seen any fly over either, although someone said a JAL 744 landed in CHC a few months back, and some cargo one (still don't know which yet) a few months before that.

I'm happy with how Eagle Air runs. Quick, no-frills, no person dithering over whether you want a snack or not. Just a quick flight, get in, take-off, land. :)

I agree. Flying Eagle is pure aviation transport in its finest form. I would say though, 1 hr flights (eg WN-TU) on the 1900D can be a heck of a long time with no attendant.

Internally, on the whole I find Mount Cook to be very 'consistent' in their service but never super amazing. Air Nelson, I find, can be either brilliant or just ordinary. When you get a brilliant cabin attendant, you're in for a very enjoyable flight.

Thats true, some of the longer flights would be a bit of a stretch...

My favourite airline is Air Chathams because their aircraft are presented nicely and they operate my favourite aircraft - Convair 580.

Emirates is the best I've been on internationally.
Lots of people whinge about their ten abreast 777, but I actually found ten abreast EK to be great - not cramped or anything.
The IFE (this was pre-ICE days) was great, service was excellent, seat was pretty good and the food was good for aeroplane food.

One of the other passengers knocked rubbish into my grandmother's lap, she had three FAs one her in seconds picking up the rubbish, apologising profusely, etc. If I remember correctly, we got several thousand Skywards miles as compensation.

Domestically there was this one really great ROT-WLG flight with Air Nelson on a Saab that was brilliant, so I suppose that makes NZ/RLK the best domestic airline for me (I have yet to try Pacific Blue, perhaps theyre better).

Cheers
Anthony

Sorry to be unoriginal, but Singapore Airlines are probably the best I've flown on. Thai are probably my second choice. I haven't flown them personally, but my Mum flies on Cathay Pacific quite often and reckons they are very good too.

Have to say I haven't flown a truly outstanding airline. I'd say that Qantas, Air New Zealand, Lufthansa, JAL and Thai are all pretty equal and it really depends on the individual flight.

After pressing the buzzer and sitting patiently for 15 minutes for some one to attend to me i finally got up and walked up to the curtained kitchen, said 'hello?', where they then opened the curtain to reveal all the flight attendants sitting around in a cirlce ON THE FLOOR playing cards! I said 'Could i possibly have a glass of wine?' the male attendant looked at me and said "Sure, have a bottle, take your pick". I did.-Aerolinas Argentinos

While flying with Air NewZealand i got chatting with a beautiful attendant, i told her about my job being a bar tutor and how i liked to evaluate wine. I wanted to know what reds they had. She said " you shouldn't bother with the economy class wine, i'll get you a glass of wine from 1st class". When she came back she brought back a full unopened bottle of one of the finest reds from Hawkes Bay and said " I couldn't get you a glass but i can give you this bottle"

I wonder if i can make a hat trick? But apart from all that Cathay Pacific is the one for me. It has class (even in economy), new planes with all the private screens and such and beautiful beautiful muybien beautiful attendants!!!!!

Singapore Airlines has always been good longhaul in terms of quality of service and comfort in the air. I haven't flown on the A380 but i hear it has great seats in economy and nice IFE. I also believe Air NZ does a great job on long haul and the short/medium flights will be alot nicer when the IFE is upgraded.

My favourite choice now though has to be Emirates, i've done several trips with them in the last 6 months and the service is always excellent, the food is always great and the IFE is really nice. Ob my LHR-DXB Flight on a 77W, the economy seats had power sockets and 10.6" screens. The only downside is the delays due to the many stops most of the flights make on their way down to Auckland. Also the Dubai hub is pretty busy and definitely worth avoiding until that new Terminal is open shortly.

I recently also flew with Jetstar and Virginblue domestically in Australia, and i found the Virgin service to be nicer. Then again it all comes down to price and i would generally fly whatever is cheapest, especially when its only a 1-1.5 flight for the flights that i would go on.
