Does anyone know when the A380 is coming to NZAA and where would be the best spot to watch it land?

Cheers

I think it it coming in next year in Febuary with Emirates.
It will be flying from Dubai to Auckland via Sydney i think ;)
The best spot will be by the side of runway 23 if that runway is in use otherwise the terminal for runway 05.

Cheers

Yep Emirates is the first to bring it to AKL as far as I know. :plane:
As for watching it,there's a thread with some information like that in it.

Here are the details

Flight Emirates 413
From Auckland NZ (AKL) Terminal I
Departure Time 1845
To Sydney NS AU (SYD) Terminal 1
I think it starts on Febuary the first.
Lets just hope Emirates get their A380s on time.

The first 4 A380's that Emirates are getting are not forecast to be delayed. The 5th has been delayed till march, meaning we may only get the A380 for half the week until the second one arrives :(

I was lucky enough to fly on Singapore Airline's 2nd A380 on the Heathrow-Singapore route back in March. Gorgeous plane to fly on, I managed to get seats in the economy section upstairs where the seat arrangement is 2-4-2, the 2 seats have extra room beside the window and it was great for me and the g/f not to have to share with anyone else. The inflight entertainment was superb with a big clear screen and plenty of games and films to chose on demand. Interior is very nice and feels a lot more spacious then the 747 to wander around in and the toilets felt a lot larger as well. It was smooth and quiet inside and made the 12 hour journey a lot more managable. Must save for a return flight in business class someday that looked fabulous!

Ooh really :P
Are Qantas going to run it through to LA via AKL or something?
Its a bit wierd if they do bring it in earlier because Qantas have downsized some routes to and from NZ, like they used the A330 instead of the 744 on some La routes.
Anyway it would be cool to see an A380 in NZ whatever the airline. Can't wait. NZFF guys could get together and organise airside clearance :P

Really Qantas sending an A380 here?

I guess SYD-LAX via AKL is a possibility, but I would think they'd be more interested in doing SYD-LAX non stop.
Then again it might not be on regular scheduled service, aye?

Either way an A380 in NZ will be

It doesnt mean that the A380 is here on a permanent air service basis - it could be here on a promotional tour. Maybe TG could shed some more light on it?

nothing concrete yet but it may just be a quick trip through to 'one up' and get the publicity.

as I said, when I hear more I'll pass it on

Ah well no-one's perfect.

I had a look on the Emirates website and the first A380 flight to land in Auckland is at 13:30hrs on 2 Feb 2009. I think the previous post gave the time it was to take off from Auckland.
