The NH-90 requires a lot more dissambly to fit the C-130. The NH-90 and LAVs fits comfortably in the A400.
The A400 is about half way in size beween the C-130 and C-17 and has a lot better performance than the C-130J. My money is on the RNZAF obtaining a small fleet of these in mid to late 2010s.
Yes the C-130s are currently going through an update but this is just to tide them trough when the A400 is available and possibly another military lifter from Embraer.
The current C-130s wil be 50 - 60 years old by the time they replace them!
Australia has a budget to buy/lease the C17 .. the Herc will cover other areas .. NZ s armed responce wont require immediate with LAV or NH90s airlifted as the OZ , they would travel via sea , or even lease a heavy carrier , Heavylift as example . When we look at the last 20 years of degrading , anything the next 20 is really going to be the eye opener .

Yeah gotta agree with you there. Anyone want to go halves on one?

Currently, there is the delicate matter of an unaccountable $400 million defense spending blowout to explain to the NZ taxpayer...
Four. Hundred. Million.
With that kind of (lack of) accountability in the military, you can bet the Beehive will tighten the purse strings a little more.Last edited by Charl on Sat Jun 28, 2008 12:32 pm, edited 1 time in total.
