NZFF

Apparently due to gale force winds only flights using the airbridges (e.g. jets only) are flying due to it being too dangerous to take passengers out on the apron.
Anyone else heard new like this? Anyone got pics?

Yer looking at WLG's website, a lot of the Link flights are cancelled and some of the jets are delayed.
Eg NZ2030 to Blenheim is showing as "CANCELLED DUE WELLINGTON WEATHER"
NZ5016 and NZ 8315 are also showing as cancelled too.

Not sure how new the METAR is, but apparently winds 350/18 Gusting to 30.

I think it was from earlier this morning, if so- We can only expect worse as the day progresses!

Just seen a Beech 1900 take off. Don't know where it was going... but it only used about 10 metres of runway before it was off the ground!

I live in Evans Bay and have a view to the northern end of the runway! The wind has dropped out a bit recently so perhaps the worst is over?

My weather station (evansbayweather.info) is not well placed for a southerly as it tends to lift over the house and back eddy but if you want to get a reasonable idea of what it is like here, then check it out.

A webcam pointing towards the airport is next on the list, maybe in about 3 months time.

ATIS is reporting 170 degrees, 25knts gusting 40knts at the northern end and at the southern end its 170 degrees, 36knts gusting 49knts. Windsheer reported on approach and departure.

Currently gusting 49kts at the southern end and the severe turbulence has been removed from the ATIS so just the windshear to contend with. Auckland was gusting 62kts on saturday.

It is pretty bad. I just have come back from Christchurch and flew owertop of it.
The pilots listened to the ATIS and it was pretty bad. A few flights were delayed and cancelled from Christchurch to Wellington.

It's been quite nice weather here in ROT today, a bit cloudy but I don't think it's rained at all.
Sun came out for a couple of hours in the afternoon as well.

Just landed on 16 in NZWN using ActiveSky real weather, 36knot Direct Headwind, so wasnt too difficult to land, but Only used about 1/3 of the runway to stop

Everybody, get on flight sim now and have a go!!

NZWN wasn't closed at all. ANZ said that it was too dangerous for pax to get to the aircraft that weren't attached to airbridges, but that was just to cover up the fact that they had crewing problems. VAC has been flying in and out today.

It's just a regular old Southerly Storm. Gusting to 49 knots is hardly abnormal here. That's pretty sad if planes couldn't land here, must just be wussy pilots. Great FS weather though- tried Gran Turismo 5 Prologue today too

it looks like it will work, so anyway what you will see is the nose wheel lift up towards the start of the video (0.9) and no one notices that and a passenger jumps out just in time. it is very lucky the barrow did not hit the plane and also just out of sight the refuller was parked next to the number 2 engine. it is so lucky there was no damage and nobody hurt and VERY lucky the aircraft was connected to the towbar and pushback.

the reason the plane lifted was because a group of 40 in the last 40 seats decided to stay on the aircraft and dissembark as a group however the ground crew did'nt know this, as well as the gale force southerly hitting the tail.

haha is it just me or does it look like there are fallas pushing against trying to hold a 70 tonne aeroplane still

haha yeah he went around after saying he was the reason it stoped in its tracks but CLEARLY you can see it had already stopped lol. i love watching our trainer run for his life from under the plane at 0:21

It was lucky no one was stepping out when that happened. Quite a long way to fall. It looks like one of the people stopped it but I'm sure it was the wind.
