A few months back Air International (a magazine I get) had an article on what they thought were the 10 most siginificant a/c in the coming years. Thought this might interest some people here. They are:

Airbus A380

Airbus A400

Boeing 787

Alenia M346 (a new gen jet trainer)

Sukhoi Super Jet (I guess this could be the first Russian airliner to compete equally with Western airliners)

Global Hawk (large UAV)

Eclipse 500 (cheap small jet)

NH-90 (what the RNZAF are getting)

Bell/Boeing Osprey (tilt rotor)

Lockheed F-35 (set to be a big seller)

Sounds about right for the next few years.
I think the 787 and A380 deserve there place but wouldn't have thought about the others.

Didn't Eclipse fall off the radar a few weeks ago??
Scary that a UAV is in there, portent of things to come?
The F-35 may well be the last manned fighter.

I definitely agree with the 787 and the A380, they're definitely deserving of their place.
Not so sure about the others, but I guess they're significant in their own ways. Pretty much right I would say.

Didn't see that ohmy.gif I just hope that they don't take over too much. sad.gif
At this stage pilot's will always be on passenger flights as quite a few people will not fully trust computer systems.

Yeah, even if they are effectively passengers.
The BART train system in San Francisco is fully automated.
There was a crash, years ago (unrelated to the automation).
When people learned through the press it was driverless, patronage plummeted.
They had to hire staff to sit in the front of the train. ohmy.gif

People don't trust computer systems much, this being a good example.
Who can blame them after the experiences some people have at home on their computers.

I didn't take notice of the UAV on there, that's a bit scary.

The Cessna 162 could possibly earn a place on that list.
Looks like it will be a great success.

No they are still around and starting to really crank them out now (there are 100s on order) - the founder/CEO resigned though and they have had some issues with quality control and certifying flight into icing but I believe these issues have or are close to been fixed.

i say that too, it does make sense when you read the article, makes for very intresting reading, now the key will be to look back in ten years and see what they got right. as far as pilot less a/c the American chief of the airforce hit it in a nutshell, there will always be the need for both piloted and pilot less aircraft, some situations need a pilot behind the wheel as it were

I reckon the Bombardier C Class should be on the list too (although it wasnt launched when the article was written) - I really think this is going to be a huge seller and will catapult Bombardier into a viable Airbus & Boeing competitor.

I do agree with the Bombardier C Series and the Cessna 162.
The Sukhoi kind of deserves its place as it looks like it will be the first 'foreign'' airliner to truly take the Western companies.
That's the only reason the Sukhoi gets its place.
