This Sunday 28th September, Friends of The Bristol will be holding an Open Afternoon from 3pm onwards. Al Marshall is expecting to start ground runs from 4pm. There will be a $5 raffle , the winner of which gets to sit in the cockpit during the runs. All other donations gratefully accepted. We will then be adjoining to the bar for refreshments afterwards. Pass the word around as we want a good turnout.
See you there.[/quote]
Sounds like a good day out.

Yea a guy I know is with the "friends" and told me about it, will probably be there too. Maybe a possible mini NZFF meetup as well?
I have added some pics to my blog that were taken at around 5.30am this morning and are the nicest I have taken.

A few of us really love that old plane and it would be nice to see a good crowd there tomorrow.
Entry is $5 and for another $5 you can go into the draw to win a ride in the jump seat for the start.
If we get a lot of people there it will be run a few times before Classic Fighters.
Well, I am off as there are a few more jobs to do on the old girl before the big day out tomorrow.
She will eventually put back in the static display area where it has been until last night.

o man i wish i was there but i will be there at Classic fighters 09. also going up to omaka to see the heritage centre for the day.
The aeroplane is all systems go for tomorrow.
I was in the cockpit today while the engines were run up to 1900rpm, just magic.
It will be a special day tomorrow as its been so much work and the public will finally be able to see the result.
There will be future ground runs so I will post the details here as well.
I manned the chocks today as well before climbing aboard, and what an awesome sound, ears ringing though

Anything due to happen mid-week with it? I'll be over from Tuesday until Thursday with Ian Garlick's son. If not it would still be good to catch up with any NZFF'ers while I'm over.
Nothing planned mid week as far as I know.
Looking at starting it every two months until Classic Fighters, she has a ravenous appetitie for fuel.
Check my blog for some updated photos from today.

If you guys are bringing VAC over and want some air 2 air photos taken of it let me know.
Long day and off to hit the sack and dream about Bristols.

Nope hopefully I'll be able to jump on VAB when it comes over on Tuesday afternoon but if not then probably Soundsair. I've been meaning to say that we should get you to take some pics of VA aircraft, the only problem is that Dad is great mates with Rob Neil so generally he does any A2A photos. To be honest I prefer your shots but we won't tell Rob
Very good day in Blenheim. I dropped into Omaka to see the Bristol. It was great to catch up with Al Marshall and also meet (very briefly) for the first time Gavin. Bristol runs were very impressive, the engines started relatively easily and sound very good. Al managed to do a few figure of eights on the airfield and a couple of taxi runs at "higher" than normal speeds. Me gets the feeling that many would love to see air under those wheels again !!
Well done to all the guys. Hope to catch up with you sometime again soon Gavin.

I wouldn't mind betting that with the motivation of some of those guys she'll be flyable. Key parts still have time left on them, such as the main wing spar which still has 3900 landings left apparently.
Sounded good sadly I couldn't be there went skiing with the family for my little bros birthday. Whens the next open day?

Nevermind, still pays to ask.
Rob is a good guy so no worries there but if you guys are over this way its rude not to get a few photos really.deaneb wrote:QUOTE (deaneb @ Oct 3 2008, 04:18 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Very good day in Blenheim. Was good to finally meet you Dean, always rushing around where Omaka is involved, lots to do but quite rewarding all the same.
At least I have put the name to the face so thats a good start.
I expect to be flying into Woodbourne on November 12 in Nanchang 20 so keep a look out.
