Hi Guys,

Just thought Id let ya know that Rotorua Tower is really easy to get into. On the door is a sign saying it is open to public viewing but identity is required.

I was there last week and I buzzed the controller (intercom on door) and he was only too happy to let me in. Do mention that you are a pilot or student pilot or whatever because they do think twice about just general public, but if you know what you are talking about in aviation it shouldnt be a problem. :)

The guy who is the best to visit is Graham (well known in ATC circles), he is an ageing due, used to be the ATC at Ardmore when a tower was still in use. He is a wicked guy to talk to and really friendly and only more than willing to show you around the systems and explain what he is doing.

I spent an hour and a half in there and it was really good to see how the other end of the Radio works and will definatly help my FRTO.

So if you are ever in Rotovegas stop by and go see Graham. ;)

~KAG~ :plane:

Word of mouth really.

A mate flew down on a cross-country and after they landed, they went to the tower and asked if they could come up and have a look. So he told me about Graham and I tried my luck...

All too easy really! lol

I went up and had a quick look today, had a nice chat to a guy called Ross for about 45 mins. Was quite good, I missed the Boeing 737's, but the Premier of Queensland had come over for a conference and parked his private jet under the tower :ph43r: .

Thanks so much for the heads up ZK-KAG, so awesome.

I jumped in the right hand seat on a paper delivery flight from Rotorua to Gisborne the other morning with the company i fly with (Air Discovery) and spent a couple of hours messing around in the Gisborne tower (left Rotorua at 3:50 am so we had to wait until dawn in gisborne so we could fly a visual approach back to Vegas)

Had a good chat with Wayne- a really friendly guy.....ill post some photos of that flight when i get a chance
