NZFF

Hi there,

After 3 years in New Zealand I'm visiting my family in Hungary. However I'll fly with Japan Airlines, it'll go on Air New Zealand 777-200's. I was wondering if any of you have travelled on those so you could give me an opinion. As I hear the seat arrangement is not the best...

I have flown on it before, long haul to San Francisco. I found it much quieter than the 747, and the line for the toilets not so long, nor the wait for food so long. Generally, a much better experience than the 747 for long haul. But, one thing I didn't like on the 777 was that while my wife and I sat next to each other, we couldn't lift the arm rest and stow it between the seats between us! It raised to only a 50 degree ish angle, so it was permanently between us, meaning we couldn't expand out of the confines of the armrests. Not the most comfortable arrangement. I'm not sure if that's for all seats, or just ours in that particular location of the aircraft.
What is it you hear about the seat arrangement not being the best? They are almost identical to the 747 minus the extra seat in the middle

Try and get the rear window seat or seat in front.I flew on Singapore recently and there was heaps more room in these seats.Sometimes they are empty out of and into NZ and you can just move into them.Rear window is just 2 seats and rest of windows are three.Planes to Europe/UK seem to be chocker once they reach Australia or ASia ex NZ.Ian.

i flown on ANZ 772 NRT-CHC-AKL. Seats are equal to their 747 and much better than most of all european carriers(such as LH, KL), but for me they are comfortable,i even slept for few hours

Yes i'd vouch for that - I flew back from Brisbane with two other workmates - we were in the centre 3 seats second row from the very rear (seat beind us was empty and used by cabin crew for thier jackets etc.) The rear area has quite a bit of room to move about especially around the toilets and is very quiet.

I came back on one from Sydney, seemed perfectly alright to me , but that's not long haul lol but I think you'd have a pretty good flight.

I've been on Three recently and three more in four months.
My first time I was the seat furthest back thus when I needed to go toilet I only had to go past one person. The plane is quieter but if you're sitting behind the wing it is very loud but only for take-off run as they reduce thrust almost instantly after take-off. Generally it's a really nice aircraft. My favourite for long haul. Plus wide Aisles thus when F/A's handing out food you can walk around (At least in Singapore Airlines - I don't remember British airways casue I only got up once)

Anyway I find that they have enough room (similar to 747/737 - way more than A320!) and once again I like flying them. I've sat by the engine just over the trailing edge of the wing, near the back (middle of back most economy section) and three rows from back and the furthest back you can go. I way prefered the back-most seat. Just having two seats is really handy.
