United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster III

Air Force Base Whenuapai are pleased to announce that a United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster III will be on display at the Whenuapai Air Show. This mighty aircraft will conduct a 12 minute flying display together with a static display, giving the public the chance to get up close to this giant of the sky.

Together with a pilot, co-pilot, loadmaster, the C-17 can carry up to 144 troops, 102 paratroops, or 48 stretchers.

Ooooh!!! That'll be an awesome sight. My true love is the Herc, though - and any opportunity to see them close-up and personal is not to be missed for me. I've been to all the Whenuapai shows in recent years and have always enjoyed them: very friendly and low-key. It does great credit to the RNZAF that a branch of the armed forces has a human face

Hmmm interesting a USAF a/c demo - long time no see (with exception of USAF Herc at Wanaka).. wonder if this eventually signals a return to USAF combat aircraft in NZ skys at airshows, exercises etc..F-15s, F-16s, F-22s(!)???

I think gone the days to see regular USAF combat aircraft , least speaking the Globemaster , that is a combat jet so to speak .. but anything with a sting , long time unless turmoil hits the region , peace lovers we all are today , no strife , no war ... just ACHMID

They've said that there would be a C17 before and it hasn't shown (in previous shows). I'd be glad if it was present but I'll take it with a pinch of salt.

ALEX .. get the Ladies and Gentlemen interested , I guess due to location , the display may be a little sedate compared to Avalon , but when the USAF get this big lifter in the air , they recon 12 minutes , prehand - swamp the USAF ramp PLUS and they will really give you one whicked show !

Hmm might be worth going up just to see the C-17..the clincher would be a RAAF F-18 and/or F-111 and/or a warbird or two.

Ooh- I wasn't going to go this year as I've already seen the Auckland based Warbird/RNZAF displays many a time, however, I've never seen a C-17 in action (except a distant flyover in Brisbane) so this changes everything for me! Hope I don't have much CPL homework that weekend

Its possible with a National Government but it would depend on the US declaring if aircraft are carrying Nukes or not. BTW C17s regularly fly to NZ to get to Antartica so its nothing new to see one here.

Looks like the F111(s) will be there along with the warbirds (I guess this means the P-51, A-37 and Harvards) - minus the P40N (which is having an engine rebuild).

Nice, Hornets, while the pig is impressive with the 'Burn', be nice to see (hopefully) some high energy, vapor forming display from the F-18's... last time I saw these at a NZ airshow was the RNZAF 50th at Whenuapai in .....1987!!

Yep ditto - if theres F-18s and F-111s there I wil be there. Saw 12 F-18s take off - one after the other at Williamtown once - very impressive

But it5 is shaping up to be one of the best airshows ever to be held at Whenuapai, with just about something for everyone. From B1900, to C17, and the Auusies have stolen the grand finale with the F18.
