Qantas out of the media spotlight now?

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Was at Auckland airport lookout this afternoon around 2pm and we'd seen some fire trucks and ambulances go past the lookout and was like must be a car crash coz we couldn't see a fire and the airport has it's own firetrucks. Anyway a smallish Qantas jet landed normally and then stopped on the taxiway and a few firetrucks came tearing out and surrounded it. We couldn't see anything like smoke but we asked someone and they said there was an emergency landing because of smoke in the cockpit. We also were talking to someone else with binoculars and he thought there might have been some smoke around the left engine, However a few minutes later we went to try and get a better view but it had gone. So how come the media haven't jumped all over it? No one even seems to know or care. Apparently it seems to happen quite often smoke in the cockpit or cabin?
Also anyone know where it originated from?
