From the AAC website: 'Warbirds and Aero Club Open Day! Saturday 25 April

Watch the Warbirds practice there displays and the official launch of X-Flight and their amazing Extra 300, with free flights to be won! A free sausage sizzle will be on throughout the day. Come and be part of the action'

Should be a good one, weather permitting. I won't be going as I'll be at a wedding on Saturday, but thought it may interest some otheres here. The Extra 300 should be good fun to watch at low level.

Just a heads up that the Heli Harvest Mil 8 chopper arrived at Ardmore this afternoon- a rarity for the region, although I'm not sure if it will stick around until Saturday.

Great photo FlyingKiwi dose anyone have information on were this helo is maintained , i believe the same company lost a Mil8 , shedding a rotor in the South Island west coast early mid nineties .

Yep open day this Saturday. X-Flight's will be displaying their Extra 300, Warbirds will also be practicing their displays as well as a fly past by the Aero Club's training fleet. Even if the weather is off the Cafe will be open and X-Flight will still have their BBQ. So a good day to come out and talk to one of the Aero Club's staff (including myself) about learning to fly if your interested.

There was a P-40 up and about to day, flying quite odd circuits (even around over to the North of the airport which is unsual), and going real slow in the normal right hand circuit- didn't get to see it up close but I presume this is the one you are talking about?

Yes, the Pioneer P-40 flew yesterday.

Ian - It's normally based in Taupo. They have two of these, which are leased from Valan International Charter company of Moldova. The other one is registered ER-MHZ. There is also a third non-airworthy one on static display outside the company's headquarters in Taupo. Previously they have also operated another Moldovan registered Mi-8, although I can't remember the registration on that one, but it was ER-MH* something. I'm not sure whether the one that crashed in the South Island was operated by Heli Harvest, but you are correct that the accident was due to a shed rotor blade.
