Cutbacks in government departments....everything is being downsized !!

With a longer ribbon, it should look ok.

Can't agree there, Dean. I think there's nothing looks more dorkish than a medal with a ribbon that's too long. I've told the mounter to shorten the others. santa_cool.gif

What I was meaning is longer too match the other three, but you are right, you don't want them too long. Both my full size medals have same length ribbon, but miniatures seem to be all over the place. One would think there would be some form of guideline about this?

Where/who are you getting to remount your medals? I need to get mine done too at some stage. My LSGC medal is court mounted, but I'm thinking about getting both done in traditional "swing" mount, as the double sided tape they use in the court mounting comes unstuck over time.

I guess you could work out the miniatures proportionally from the full size rule: 1st ribbon 11/2" long and everything level at the bottom after that.
There's a place on the corner of Kinross St and Sutherland Terrace, they're in the yellow pages.

Following this , wonder if you can get a re-issue due to lost stolen , father being in the Korean War , all history and doc lost due to theft , no record off his No. worth checking out in the new year , course last night turn a switch on since fathers brother was killed in the Battle of Kula Gulf 13th July 1943 , the Cruiser mention last night was the HMS Neptune , a Leander Class of which the sister with that name HMNZS Leander he served on .

Ian, I lifted this from NZDEF Medals FAQs. I'm assuming your father is dead.

"NZDF policy is that replacement medals are only issued (and at cost) during the lifetime of the person to whom they were originally awarded."

Dont be too sure of that Ian, I got my uncles service records from when was enlisted until he was KIA in Italy on nothing but a Surname.

If the medals where stolen it should be covered by insurance, and you should be able to get his set done again, but without the engraving. I've got a contact at the Army Museum who is ex RAF chap and he is right into medals, do you want me to put you in contact with him?

Here is the rest of that answer, Ian.
"The best option for you would be to contact a militaria dealer who should be able to sell you a set of the medals your father qualified for. Because Second World War medals were issued without being engraved, there should be no obvious difference between the medals your father originally received and a replacement set of original Second World War medals."

Why not get them Court Mounted? That way the mounter will provide new ribbons for all of them.
