Hello Chums!.... biggrin.gif ....

If one was to tour New Zealand on a motor bike, in some, warm, dry, sunny weather, amongst some glorious scenery, wonderful roads, and meet some fantastic folks....

If one had to pick just one, at what time of the year, and which would be the best Island to explore...North Island, or South Island?

Which one is the warmest?...."Warm and dry" is always nice on a motor bike!... rolleyes.gif ...!

The North/South divide!.... winkyy.gif .....Any Biker's exciting suggestions?

Paul....The Ultimate Explorer..... biggrin.gif ...!

Most explorations so far have been carried out daily, in warm, sunny California, and the surrounding States, with the assistance of MS Flight Simulators!!

Probably Jan/Feb/Mar weather wise....

The two Islands are different, the South will supply the dramatic scenery and the lighter traffic that a m/cycle man would want. The North is worth a trip on its own, there's so much to see it's hard to know where to begin. Let Google be your friend.

I have done both Island on Honda 900/1100s a dozen times, all the trips during the months of December and January, but you would find February,March and even April would be fine the seasons have jumped a couple of months.

I did regular day trips Christchurch through the Lewis pass and back through Porters pass and same trip again packing the bike and away for the weekend , I think you would be astonished with some of the places here.

Google is a great idea Paul , there are few outfits here that arrange tours / hire etc . As Bazza said , the contrast between noth and south is huge. Even the east and west of the south island is extreme .
Rest assured you will have plenty of places to stay if you make it down here , more than welcome to base yourself here when your in the south.
If you find it all a bit much , i have motorbike trailer .... and would be happy to tow you around winkyy.gif

Another biker here Paul, I'd echo what the others said, very different Islands, both have lots to offer. If you can stomach the ferry ride and tying down you bike etc then I'd suggest doing a top-to-bottom trip somehow. Pester us again later for route suggestions once you know how much time you have to spend in NZ. Sounds like we could join you for sections of the ride as you go.

Hells .. there we go Paul , You have two Christchurch stops , one Hamilton, and I'm very sure the many will have stops for you all the way up and down the country, I did this and large portion dumped my gear off , then giving me the sprocket spot tours.

This is one of all the series of fantastic Motorcycle rides by Henry Cole which I have watched on the Tele Travel Channel!

Worlds Greatest Motorcycle Rides:

http://www.travelchannel.co.uk/series-info...88#.VASjtYaCZIw

My favourites were the USA, Australia, and New Zealand ones.....mainly because he used the Harley Cruisers/Choppers, etc!

Made me want to get a Yamaha XVS Dragstar* of my own now, for some gentle touring, for a change, in Britain!

I'm getting a bit long in the tooth now for racing around the countryside on my various Super Sports Bikes!

The USA Route 1 East Coast, Route 1 West Coast, Route 66, and the desert rides, were wonderful, with some fantastic (hot) weather...which is always nice!

Paul.... biggrin.gif ...!

* Out of all my Brit and Yap bikes I have owned since 1950, the only "Vee-Twin" I have owned in the past was my 1958 Vincent HRD 998cc Series B/C Rapide....

..so I am up for some more of that wonderful "Vee-Twin" rumble/sound again!....Shake, Rattle and Roll!... notworthy.gif ....!
