I did read today that the reason why New Zealand isn't pushing ahead to abolish the monarchy is that she has been so popular. So the longer she lasts, the longer we'll have a monarch, I guess.
She's certainly had a stable employment history, I've been working for 40+ years and I've had three entirely different careers in that time, and been made redundant three times. She must have a good union...

End off the day, only reason they are in charge was they were just quicker and better at cutting peoples heads off .. what it comes down to, go back into history .. I'm not that much of a royalist, but I do admire the Queen and recognise that she brings in millions a year over here from tourism, certainly far more than she costs us UK taxpayers. The last thing I would want is another layer of unnecessary government with an elected, largely ceremonial president who would likely do less (in terms of bringing money into the economy anyway) but probably cost more. I think the same would be true for NZ. The last thing NZ needs is President John Key (or someone like him).

Charles' reign will likely be the turning point one way or the other. It's likely to be fairly short but I can't see his personality and quirks going down at all well in Australia or possibly NZ. If there's still a monarchy when William takes the throne, I think it'll be assured of a long future. He's a good man, hugely popular in NZ and Australia and actually works for a living.

Let's not forget of course that Prince William loves aviation and is an ex-RAF and now air ambulance helicopter pilot, so he's one of us. Hope he gives everyone free flying lessons when he becomes king, that would turn me into a keen royalist for sure
