Flexjet orders 20 supersonic biz-jets

Postby cowpatz » Fri Nov 20, 2015 8:45 am

Flexjet has placed a firm order valued at $2.4 billion for 20 Aerion AS2 supersonic jets, with delivery to begin in 2023.

The jet will carry eight to 12 passengers and have a top speed of Mach 1.5. It will have a range of 4,750 nm at supersonic speeds, which will save three hours flying across the Atlantic versus subsonic aircraft and more than six hours on longer transpacific flights.

Airbus came on board a year ago and announced yesterday they are expanding their collaboration in the project.

From reading the jet will use FBW based on the Airbus system that will also control fuel for CofG and feature small, powerful actuators that can be housed in the thin flying surfaces.

Aerion announced yesterday also they they’ve begun a formal search for a U.S. manufacturing location for a state-of-the art campus of more than 100 acres on a major airport with a minimum 9,000-foot runway, and other special geophysical requirements.” Among them will be a location within 200 nautical miles of a supersonic flight test area, most likely one offshore.

Hmmm, KMHV Mojave - has a 12,000ft runway is 77nm from the west coast – even closer to the supersonic area over the desert a bit plus has heaps of spare room!

Not going to cut it for me I'm afraid, it can't do Auckland - Los Angeles supersonically...
The G650 has a nicer interior, anyway :D

It's like something out of Thunderbirds or Captain Scarlet...

There doesn't appear enough space for fuel given those 3 engines and Starfighter type minimalist wing.

I might be in the space between the cabin and the wing...

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'
