Canada Legalising the use of Cannabis!

They are now copying the State of California in their stupidity!

Are the folks around me out of their brains on Alcohol and/or mind-altering Drugs?

We are in constant danger from folks with Guns, Knives, and Drugs!

Many of my best Motorcycle Chums are in the USA and Canada, and I fear for them, with the crazy antics of the Law-makers!!

I could never understand the taking of; "Drugs", and getting seriously addicted to them as a way of life!

I am very disappointed in Canada!

I say to myself; "What is the World coming to?"

Don't know about the UK, but here we don't have a driver drug testing regime.
The Booze Bus is a fairly regular sight, but I haven't heard of anyone being done for methamphetamine in a car.
The range and potency of recreational chemicals available to just about anyone is startling, and I don't mess with people doing stupid things on the road as they may in fact be temporarily on another planet.
Roll on, autonomous vehicles.

It will be interesting to see how Canada Border Control reacts to the latest Law allowing Cannabis/Marijuana use in Canada.

One thing is for sure, the Canadian coppers will be able to focus more attention on solving and preventing actual crime now.

From what I am aware, my very large family of Children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren have never been involved in the partaking of brain-destroying substances for recreational or other purposes...

True. But lets just hope that guy servicing your heli, or reconditioning the parts, is not impaired by weed. Do you really want Cheech or Chong working on yr machine? I sure don't.

It's also a great gateway drug. A starter kit.

Paul, I'm not sure that legalising cannabis necessarily increases the risk on the road etc -- it could in fact reduce the overall risk. Use of cannabis increases the risk of vehicle accident by 2 to 3 times, while alcohol increases the risk by 6 to 15 times.... so giving people easier and legal access to cannabis may give them an alternative to going out, getting plastered and driving home. Alcohol is also a lot more dangerous when it comes to violence, sexual assault and crime in general.
Legalising cannabis makes it less of a 'gateway' drug, as you are not having to deal with the criminal element.

No I don’t want people to be under the influence while working in aviation.... just like I don’t want people to be drunk... it’s exactly the same thing. As Rob has pointed out, science tells us that cannibis is actually far less harmful than alcohol. It also has a lit of medicinal properties. CA and a handful of other states have legalised it with no ill effects on society. Car accidents aren’t up, hospital admissions aren’t up... I visited a cannibis shop in San Diego, it’s all very regulated. You have to provide ID, get entered into the system.... they can see if people have sustance abuse problems then. Maybe alcohol should be regulated the same way...

No problems with medicinal use as that is a different ball game altogether.
The effect it will have on the young will be profound and of course the damage will only really show up in decades to come. We know of a young lad (twenty) that is a frequent user and his brain is well and truly fried. He has trouble stringing a sentence together and has the attention span of a toddler. He has to work with his father as he can't hold down any other job. Cannabis has a known detrimental affect on the development of the brain in young people.
Yep alcohol is bad, but is that an excuse to add to those problems with more substance abuse? Everyone seems to assume that it is either one or the other, booze or drugs but in my observations at parties those that smoked usually drank as well.
Take a stroll around San Francisco sometime and have a look at all the whacked out street people. The sickly stench of pot is everywhere. The only plus side is that they are too out of it to cause trouble, which is why the city authorities turned a blind eye to the "medical cannabis" abuse.
There was an interesting interview on the National program (The panel with Jim Mora) the other day that made mention of pot in earlier days had a THC level of 5% or less and that now it has been breed to be be up to 30% and that it was still trending upwards. What might have been passive in years gone by is now causing quite serious Psychotic effects in many users. Imagine being a teacher trying to teach these kids.
It will be very interesting to see how safety related companies (well even normal companies come to think of it) deal with employees that fail a drugs test. Unlike alcohol dope stays in the system for weeks.
Certainly if the CAA get a whiff of you using it you will be toast.
