Crook (sick) as a dog

Im not sure where that comes from "sick as a dog" .... but I am .... woke up yesterday with a really sore throat (just fine the day before) , by mid morning I was a coughing , sweaty mess.
Had an early night after taking some lemon honey and ginger stuff ...slept like a baby ...awake every 3 hours coughing and cursing

Today was just awful ... Im in the office this week ...cough ..sneeze ...cough again, the lady that runs the office (but not me) politely suggested I should go home ...I explained I couldn't, my manager was away off site for the day , I had tradesmen all over the place, who needed supervising and a guy under training , anyway , by 1600hrs I had , had enough ...no voice which was really useful . So Im stopping at mums for the night , as I do on Wednesdays and just hope i dont infect her.... will review the situation in the morning.

Really odd , how can you go to bed feeling good one night, and wake up so sick 8 hours later ?
Last time this happened to me was years ago during my brief tour driving days. Woke up in a Queenstown hotel 3 hours before a scheduled 12 hour day , local and back to CHC ...50 pax plus bags .....it was the longest day of my life, we did everything ... service the coach,clean it, load it, all the paper work , commentary along the way , deal with whatever came up...would never be allowed these days, and in hindsight, I should never have run that risk ....50 people! and me medicated to the max ...
Anyway that was then ....it appears (according to my female co worker) I have Man flu ...it will pass "suck it up and move on"

Sorry to hear the bad news, Marty!
The advantage of living on my own for the past 45+ years (seems like forever!) is that unless someone coughs over me during my regular visit to my local Sainsbury's on my trusty Motorcycle for my shopping, I am very unlikely to catch any nasty human ailment.
It's "Other People" who make you sick...
...especially Small Children!!
I eat plenty of Garlic, Onions, fresh fruit and vegetables, and Spinach, to keep me fit and healthy!
What's good for Popeye is good for me!

Man flu is serious....perhaps more so than Coronavirus. Speaking of which I guess everyone is giving you a wide berth and wondering why you aren't in 2 weeks quarantine!
At least you can get some serious sim time in!

Marty, sometimes you just have to take the hit and give your immune system a workout! Use it or lose it...
But I do go along with Paul, you're better off keeping away from people, generally. If I'm gonna catch a bug, it should be from my grandkids, not some random stranger in the supermarket!
We should catch up some time. Once you are no longer contagious, of course:)

An interesting expression “sick as a dog”. Of all the dogs I’ve had they have only very rarely been sick.

Dog was considered an undesirable animal in the 17th century. So much so that there are a lot of phrases which refer to them negatively [tired as a dog, dog in the manger, down to the dogs, dog's breakfast, dirty dog, etc.]. Sick as dog refers to being so sick that one may feel like vomiting. The first literary use of the expression is in 1705. The phrase still reflects in a negative sense as it was intended back then. I went to work this morning but home again by midday ...... should be all good for Monday.
