Flying 15,000lt of fuel cargo to a frozen lake anyone?

Postby deeknow » Sat Oct 22, 2022 1:28 pm

This is pretty interesting, Nolinor have the largest fleet of in service 737-200s mainly due to the conditions of the fields they need to fly in and out of, in this video they fill two bladders with 7,5000l of fuel each in a combi-200 and fly it up to a frozen lake near a mining operation up in the arctic circle. Bet that makes for an interesting safety briefing

All kinds of questions arise from this: Arctic Mining?? Apart from flying in fuel, what's it they can mine economically and get it out, then?
Also the hull insurance discussion would be an interesting one.

75,000 litres slopping around in a bladder? Must be an interesting trimming exercise - I hope the bags are full of sponge, or similar, to act as baffles :o

It cannot slop around if they are full and tied down, as there is no empty space for the fuel to move too.
