Coming soon....

Postby emfrat » Tue Jun 13, 2023 8:34 pm

My trusty 28" LG screen has decided to draw the line, some years beyond its warranty date. Fortunately I was able to get a 32" one to replace it. Ordered on Computer Alliance this morning, $70 off more than covered the $15 courier delivery, it is already on its way and should be here on Thursday. Exciting times ahead - defrost freezer, replace wheel bearings on the Barina - it never stops

   Too clever by half ! The screenie does not show the line because it is a vertical line of dead pixels, therefore not on the screen :whoops:
What I see is a line from top to bottom, passing through the roundel in Mark's great banner photo, just brushing the RH edge of the red.
Time I retired

bummer about the old screen, boomer about the new tho, got a link to it?

I would love to pick up a decent gaming monitor, have scraped by with 32" business monitors which have been Ok. At work I've been running one of these bad boys which am tempted to get for home now....

I settled on widescreen 2560 x 1600 format years back, and find no reason to change!
Must have DisplayPort, though the 4k (HDMI) TV does seem to look better when I plug the sim in there.
But the curved screen? Unless you happened to like sitting at the exact focus of the curvature, I can't find the advantage over flat.

Cheers, Dean - This is the range I was looking at
https://www.computeralliance.com.au/mon ... en-size/32

and this is the one I selected
https://www.computeralliance.com.au/32- ... ps-monitor

It is classed as a 'business' monitor. Gaming monitors have much higher refresh rates e.g. 165Hz. I am not convinced that my eyes can perceive the difference, although I don't play the sort of rapid-action games that might need that.
I am happy with the quality and performance of my LG screens for flight simming. Both this 28" one and the new 32"one have two HDMI ports, so the main daily use machine and the flying machine can be permanently connected to the monitor and it is a very simple matter to switch the displays.

 Charl, maybe this afternoon when it warms up a bit. Right now, temps are ideal for scraping the knuckles across a wheel stud :swear:
Interesting comment about the curved screens.. My little office/playroom just doesn't have the space for widescreens - I can hardly see out the window as it is.

weren't tempted to go a little higher rez wise? I'm running P3D/MSFS at QHD/1400p which just gives a little more oomph, dont think my 2060 will cope w driving a 4k monitor

AFS2 and AFS4 are very smooth on moderate spec systems like mine. The GPU in the Flying Machine is an 8GB Radeon RX6500 XT, which does all I want. and stays cool.
I like good visuals, but I want visible improvements, not ones I will need a computer to measure. :D
