Shift change blues

Postby Splitpin » Fri Nov 15, 2024 10:33 am

What a week, I'm tired, sore and grumpy.
I've been covering an early shift for one of my colleges away on leave...0600-1430.
My body clock is stuck in my normal 0930-1730 shift, so by the time I get home around 1500, the body is looking at 1800hrs.
I've got this sciatic nerve thing going on that buggers up my sleep, add to that walking about 30km (slowly) in the last 4 days (today is a holiday here)...so, overall, not a particularly nice person to be around at the moment.
I have gained much appreciation for his efforts this week.
With my partner being away in Japan and related time zone issues...its just messy...and that adds to my grumpyness.(if that's a word)
I'm going to have a debrief and handover with him (co worker) on Sunday, and hopefully get back to normal.

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the fact that at 67, I can still work 40+ a week and walk all those K's, when a couple of my friends of a similar age are now sadly, un aware of even what day it is. :(

I am not a big fan of Daylight Saving for the reasons you mention.
Takes me weeks to figure out why the sun is in the wrong place, twice a year.

There's always things you can tweak in your lifestyle.
Grumpy is allowed, too.
