Tracking Pam

Postby Splitpin » Sat Mar 14, 2015 6:00 pm

Bloody hell ... Ive been watching this thing for days now , and you have to be impressed by it .
Looking at the latest met service models , this mother could cause a few problems . The core (eye) pressures alone , are enough to send shivers up your spine .On reaching the Chathams down as low as 942 .. which means major wind . Looking at sat pics from Joint typhoon watch (USN) , she has a perfect eye about 15km across ..... just hope its going to track east as predicted .
These things normally lose intensity in the lower latitudes , once the eye becomes cold ... but this one seems to be bucking the trend.

Thanks Doug, another few years, watching the weather would like viewing Flight-radar.

I recall tracking a polar blast and in contact with people all the way from Invercargill following it via team speak .. very similar to how the weather stations did it in the early days and we nailed it and so close, course brother was taken me down to a Tekapo meet .. got cancelled due how close we were following .. Rick thought nah but as we hit the blizzard .. it impressed him.

Looks bad for certain places!

If it ain't Earthquakes...its bloody Cyclones!..... :( ....!

Well taking a few precautions here at Papamoa, live pretty close to the surf and will be an interesting night. Made sure the bbq bottle is ok in case of power outage and garden furniture will be stowed. Sat thru Bola back some years and took a snotting then in the Bay of Islands so have some history to base plans on. Considering the potential wind direction my main concern is the garage door, may put a mattress up against it and back the cars up onto that, it's the tilting type and rattles a bit in ordinary gales. Got some pretty ancient neighbours so better go and see what they have planned.

Good on ya B-) , I did have a book on the Wahine disaster and it showed the whether pattern and how that cyclone went rogue, maybe can be found on the net somewhere.

We're just hanging out for a bit of rain to fill the water tank again.

I'm rostered to fly to NZWB at 0900 Monday and the TAF has southwesterlies gusting 40knots so that might entertain the punters
