Thanks Ian. I just called the hosp to see how her night was, and seems she's been moved to CTW (whatever that is)but I'll catch with her this arvo.

Sorry to bore you with all this, but things have changed: Mum will taken to St Georges by amulance on wednesday morning, and the op will be done there. Stays there for 3 days (max 4 ) and then home. She's been moved again up at public, but now she has her own room , which is good.
Her lungs are clear and they are ready to do what they do.

The old man and i are getting on just fine.....lots of 1950's, 60's airforce info coming out.....but more about that later.

Thanks for your thoughts and support.

Ok I have to say something.

I know you don't know me, and I don't know you. But anyone that quotes Dr Suess is gotta be a Good Ol Kiwi.

Make sure you let them Both know just how much you Love them (which I'm sure you are). We all take our parents for granted, and then when they are gone we never stop thinking about them.

Life is Short! Too short. Don't miss out telling those you Love... How much they mean to you.

All the Best to you and your Family.

That's all sounding good with your Mum, Marty. Pleased to hear that you've found some useful common ground where you and your Dad can chat and connect: I know how hard it can be sometimes to find enough to talk about - I've always got to drive the conversation with my Dad these days. sad.gif

Op is all set for wednesday at about 3.30, spoke to the guy doing it today (Mr Singh) and he seems 99% sure all will be well.
However........now the old man is not good, he cant see much now and suffers from a nasty bowel condition.....he wont tell me much, but i think he's about 24 hours away from hospital as well.

Good God, what next? i just want them both to be fine , so i can go home (10 mins away) I dont mind admitting Im stuffed, and angry....these are two people who have been so active all their lives (mum still works writing ads for radio)....dad has flown just about everything you can name....and to be reduced to this , is just cruel.

Sorry to sound off, but Ive had enough of this .....he (the old man) is asleep now , so Im going to crash early as well.
I'll let you know asap if anything happens.

Mate,

Just want to wish your mum all the best for her op tomorrow.

I feel for you - I've had to nurse both my parents at some stage and it's not easy - it's really draining both phyiscally and mentally. But I looked as payback time for all they did for me when I was a kid - anyway the're the only parents you've got - so you have no choice.

Times like this it's hard to stay positive, but try too.

Paul

Thanks for the update, Marty. I can totally relate to what you're saying - my Dad's gone from being active to a shell of a man who shuffles around the place looking 100 - and he's only just gone 70. I can understand it would be even worse for you, though, since your Dad sounds like a very physically active sort where mine has been more of an intellectual "active" type (but not now). I agree, it seems rude... ditto for your Mum.

Thanks Paul,
Its odd, you spend most of your life getting looked after by them, and then......anyway, just had a call from the doc who did the op and too quote him "so far so good, but Im happy with what we did" She's in ICU now . Its been a long long day.
The old man is not to good , and Im taking him to the doc in the morning, and Im 99% sure he will end up in there(hosp) as well......which , in a way is good.
Just need to get them both back home in good condition asap

Thanks for your thoughts....means a lot

Marty

Hope all is going well down there Marty and best wishes. Heres hoping your folks bounce back quickly. My wife has just had her 6 monthly check up and the time has come to get her heart valve replaced too. Not something to look forward when you are just over 40, but we always knew it would come one day. Looks like it will happen before Xmas.
