Went to check on an apartment i was going to rent out from the 11th of Jan to a couple from Japan(for 6months....good money).........may have to call the folks and call it off. It came thru the big one with minimal damage, but 1210 on boxing day morning...it gave up. Appears to be only plaster and paint....but the whole ceiling is going to have to be done. in every room.....BUGGER..BUGGER..I need this like a hole in the head sad.gif

If i get it fixed....how long before it happens again?.....might have been better if the whole bloody thing just fell over.

Had a chat to the cat about it........usual response......

Gut wrenching stuff mate, you have my sympathies - for what that's worth. A bloody nightmare.

hmm what's the situation with laborers at the moment? Perhaps the couple would rather still have a place to stay with a few days of inconvenience than they would have to totally rebook? (i.e. start getting it done now?)

Timmo, trades people are pretty hard to find at the moment....also need to contact EQC and get that end sorted. Ive emailed pics to Japan, and advised that the structure is safe.(rechecked today)...and offered a discounted rate (very discounted), They have been here before and love the place.....so fingers crossed.

We feel for you guys... this is going on way too long.

Splitpin - nice photos though thumbup1.gif Always hard to get get good shot indoors pirate.gif

I have workmates in CH that were ok (and you ask every time you speak to them 'cause it changes thanks to these shakes...) but one now has a semi-detached garage.
Let us hope 2011 gets much better.

Thanks guys......spent the morning looking for an alternate place, and found a really nice one (inner city) but in one piece. The owner was really motivated , so at least the Japanese couple will have a place . Contacted the the owner of the other half of the apartment and broke the news......not happy.

I have a cousin in Oz (Bunderburg) who is a builder, at the moment hes up to his neck in flood water and wants out for a few weeks.....so he kindly offered to come over and get to work, and he can live rent free in the place while he's working plus materials.........geez, its amazing what you can come up with when the pressure is on.

Fingers crossed Im not just feeding another big shake....otherwise there will be a real cheap apartment (downtown chc) up for grabs.

Again , thanks guys for the kind words....didnt really mean to dump it on the forum.

Cheers

Marty

Looks like alot of places around ChCh right now, depending on what the timber has done in the walls/roof it could be as simple as a rejib and paint. Take a couple of days to do that I think.
