An awesome day was had by half a dozen multicopter pilots. The weather was awesome…

My tricopter (4-gyro model test-flown Friday arvo) developed an intermittent gyro fault so we did a 5-minute KK-blue-board retrofit thanks to Matthew Wellington from Hawera ( www.kiwirc.com ). Plug and play it was (as witnessed and videoed by Bruce Simpson - AKA X-jet) and it was held in place with orange ties I also installed the cheap Futaba FAAST compatible “Orangeâ€￾ receiver. It worked a treat. I flew 8 batteries in the end

I also carried my Gopro camera most flights. It has some "jello" vibes as it was untested and I really didn't know how it was going to go. Vibes or not here is some footage. I even caught Matts flying wing screaming past me at 100'.

Interesting shots & post...just had a look at the mobile phone Parrot chopper at EB Games...looks very tempting (although perhaps not at $500 and dont have an I Phone or I Pod either which you need to control it with) ... has anyone had a go with one of these?

No excuse now for not making a brilliant little FSX scenery to plop into Mikes HamiltonX

Parrot - I've never seen one - only on the web. I don't own an I-phone...

"Multicopters" are gathering popularity - my tricopter has folding arms which makes it the ultimate portable machine for those quick shots. Not necessarily commercial-grade (which you will never get from a Gopro) but great casual shots like when I went camping.
Quadcopter kits start at approx $350 plus radio gear, batteries etc.
My tricopter while being extremely ugly and in the experimental phase (I've got no shortage or rc gear) was diy built from forum research. The first cost $200 worth of bits.

There is a new shop on the block for multis only - in Hawera. I am using a control board from Mathew. The rest of my setup was standard rc motors and gyros (cheap stuff from China).

Great video.....and really useful as I'm part way through modelling it for FSX

I always seem to forget to take a few photos for context which can make it quite hard to place a lot of similar looking hangars!
