I know we marvel at the 74 a lot round these parts, but it's just such a true genius piece of industrial design/art, incredible that it still looks so good after over 40years

I think so....if anything it gets better looking. As for its rival, the only way to improve that would be to stop making the butt ugly thing.

I sure is, but heck it is long. On trans-continental flights, Pilots are going to be in a different timezone to the passengers! laugh.gif

Not to my knowledge , still going through trails , I would love to see a break down off parts , as with the 400 series was a totally different aircraft to the 100/200/300 types .

It has the most beautiful wing.
And what a great shot that last one is...only the 777 has more going on in the main truck.
But this one has more of 'em, and just look at that steerable bogey mechanism!

The aircraft is 2 years late...launch customer Lufthansa followed by Korean will get them probably in 2012.
But the first delivery is in a bizjet configuration for Kuwait!

I was puzzled by the ghastly colour they painted the rollout plane, until I read Boeing's publicity blurb:
"The aeroplane unveiled today is painted in a new Sunrise livery of red-orange that only will appear on the first 747-8 Intercontinental and is a significant departure from Boeing's standard blue. The new color palette honors many key Boeing customers whose cultures recognize these colors as symbols of prosperity and good luck."

Huh? "Many key Boeing customers"?
But then Google helped in the search for "Good Luck Colour Red":
Red, corresponding with fire, symbolizes good fortune and joy.
Red is found everywhere during Chinese New Year and other holidays and family gatherings.
A red envelope is a monetary gift which is given in Chinese society during holiday or special occasions.
The red color of the packet symbolizes good luck.
Red is strictly forbidden at funerals as it is a traditionally symbolic color of happiness.
In modern China, red remains a very popular color and is affiliated with and used by the Communist government.

Pretty clear where Boeing is looking, then... a far cry from when Pan Am launched the 747, 45 years ago.

I like the "Boeing property" written on the tyres. They must be planning on touring some dodgy places and don't want the wheels nicked and the plane left up on blocks !!
