Im sure its against the rules to mention the "T" word here.......but this is just amazing. The scenery, the lighting, sound....auto gen....moving people.....some of the station shots (not shown here) look's like Rob has been there.

When i went to visit Ian the other day i told him about this.....he just yawned ....... and changed the subject . ninja.gif

a lot of work doing these screens....the train sim take's them as PNG , so they have to convertred to JPG.....edited, uploaded, etc etc.........anyway, i just thought it would be something new.....enjoy.

I have a book on how to make steam engines , it was my fathers ... i wonder if we could figure out how to get it going via the book .. works just like the real thing , some of those choo choo guys are really very talented engineers in both respects , in build and operation .

Its called TrainSim 2012 (Railworks 3) I found a copy of the old ms trainsim at a garage sale, and a couple of days later the guy called and said he had this if i wanted it.
I dont know what runs the graphics(as in software) but its amazing.......the rain effect on the windscreen for example is very real.

Im very impressed, might post some more screens if anyones interested.

I'm very lucky to have one of the best preserved heritage railways in England, the Severn Valley Railway only a few miles from me and bought an old copy of Microsoft Train Simulator last year specifically so I could use the official SVR add-on for it. Out of curiosity, I looked around to see whether there were any New Zealand related resources around for MSTS and got quite a surprise.... ohmy.gif

Northrail - The Wanganui Section by Neville Brook:

Raurimu Spiral: Taumarunui to Ohakune by Trevor Burt:

Rimutaka Incline by Trevor Burt:

Lower Hutt Valley by Trevor Burt:

Southrail: Gateway to Central Otago - Dunedin by Neville Brook:

Southrail: Gateway to Central Otago - Taieri Gorge Railway by Neville Brook:

If you consider MSTS is over ten years old now and used essentially FS2002-era technology, I think those routes are remarkable achievements and stand up extremely well. They're authentic with the real landmarks all present and correct and the sound and atmosphere when driving the train is spot on for NZ. I noticed quite a few names in the trainsim scene familiar to us, including Nije who modelled the Taieri Gorge engine in my screenshot above.

All of the above is freeware and available from Train Simulation New Zealand, although as some of the links there are broken I had to go to the general trainsim sites to find everything.

Very interesting.. I could get into that if I had some spare cash lol
Train Sim 2012 is $34.99US on Steam currently. Not bad price.
Plenty of addons to buy (for all $1659.12 USD!) plus free I guess.

Yep, the addons soon add up.......Im collecting a few freeware bits from trainsim.com......but their huge! if you want too add a whole new route, your looking at a min of 20-30 mb, and then some.
I think I'll stick to the default for now......and untill i can fly again.......but in the mean time....toot toot winkyy.gif

RD ohmy.gif your the last one i thought that would have been one of "us".......RW3 is great.....freeware addons are HUGE! but worth it....the payware stuff is vast but if you know what you want ,
worth the coin.
I dont care what anyone says, there is something nice about driving a train......the power is up there with most aircraft (4,000 hp +) and the signal system just as involved as ATC.
Its all about management....and momentum, a lot less room to move than most Pilots when things go wrong.
Look forward to some screens (off topic of course) in the future.

That was my first thought, and I was hoping for .bgls, .bmps etc but unfortunately MSTS is in a totally different (and incomprehensible) format! Shame MSTS2 never made it, as that would've used the FSX engine. Maybe PREPAR3D will give us some choo choos eventually?

In the meantime I'll just have to carry on with low strafing runs in Rise of Flight... laugh.gif

Thanks Marty. I've been wanting to get back in the cab for a while now so this gave me a good excuse to run around the NZ routes. biggrin.gif I'm absolutely amazed there don't seem to be any NZ routes for Railworks. Think how great they would be!
