Marty if you use firefox browser, or maybe chrome, you can install an "addon" into firefox called "easy youtube video downloader". That will show a button on the youtube video you are watching which you simply click to download the video instead of just watch it. Couldn't be easier.

Firefox menu - TOOLS/ADD-ONS - then click "get addons" on the left, and search youtube. Done. smile.gif
I watch heaps of these docos on youtube lately. Great stuff.

B52 Stratofortress http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEnSYWJgWyI for example.

Thanks for the link Ian, that'll keep me busy for a while!

Yes, and from any browser, without installing anything. Just change "youtube" to "keep-tube" in the url and let the magic begin. That's literally all there is to it, just click in the address at the top of the screen and change "you" to "keep-". There is a keeptube extension you can get but all it does is make that change for you so don't bother with it. Don't forget the hyphen when you type it, it's keep-tube not keeptube tongue.gif

E.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDzZnCkbxgs becomes http://www.keep-tube.com/watch?v=vDzZnCkbxgs

Enjoy.

Re: downloading from YouTube...

Guys, despite Gary and Alister's assurances :-) I'd personally be VERY CAREFUL about which plugin or add-on or tool you download and install. There is no official tool coz of course Google don't want you do take the content, so there really is no reputable developer or publisher of tools that will do this sort of thing for you.

At best, most of these are ad-supported, will install plugins in your browser, or run Java applets, that can do almost anything they like unless you pay close attention to how they install and the documentation they publish (if any).
At worst some are just downright malware and you're really taking a chance.

Just saying...

This is a good free video down loader
http://download.cnet.com/YTD-Video-Downloa...4-10647340.html
Not only can you download YouTube this program also allows you to convert downloaded videos for iPad, iPod, iPhone, PSP, Cell Phone, Windows Media, and XVid, or play video that you have previously downloaded or converted.

Doug, do you use it yourself? From the description and comments it also installs a bunch of ad-ware and auto-updates etc, are they annoying?
Re the video conversions, there are lots of free and non-ad-ware tools out there for that sort of work too

RAZBAMs Hawker Tempest
The one thing i'm really looking forward to hear is how well done the sound package is with this model , a unique sound the Napier Saber 24 cylinder , sure there must be a cut away of an engine used somewhere in the UK showing just how intricate and the engineering involved , we have one here on display at Wigram Air Force Museum in Christchurch , there is a brilliant 50 min video on Utube somewhere on the Tempest its in the MIA at the mo well worth a watch ! .

Id like to add and to make you aware if you download these movies unless they state they are free by downloading them you are breaking the NZ law from my understanding you may watch online posted content streaming but downloading is well what it is so i suggest you dont store them unless you know they are 100%free , just watch them at your leisure on the TUBE there are plenty of good online tv sites doco sites out there and you can watch them over and over only thing that may limit you is the amount of bandwidth you have payed 4 ...

If you're a Cessna Skymaster fan, Bat 21 is great with Gene Hackman - good story and lots of Skymaster footage set during the Vietnam era.

For YouTube, I use YouTube Downloader which does need to be updated occasionally. As someone mentioned, be careful to read all of the install progress as it may try and add to your browser toolbar as many of these free add-ons do :-/ Haven't had any problems with it at all (it will download from other sites too). A good video accelerator in combination will download faster; I use DAP (Download Accelerator Plus) and Speedbit Video Accelerator - very fast.

Already posted I think, but YouTube Downloader is at this link: smile.gif
