Ill find and dig up the article , this type of thing was on the drawing boards around 1980-82 considered following idea from America's company Fairchild C-128 Packplane in around the 1950s , every thing worked fine and was not a bad idea , not new at all .

Ian's right of course, there's nothing new under the sun, only the possible implementations change.
While airport transfers are a pain, I'm not sure I'd want to be stuck in the same capsule for 30 hours or so.
Perhaps better as a short haul application, where transfers bite a big piece of the journey time..
