Posted: Fri Jul 04, 2014 9:26 amYes, I normally don't notice the ad breaks, but they were incredibly jarring in this, I suppose because it was so easy to get into the story, being my city, my memories of the quake etc.
I didn't consider not watching it, although the previous docos about the quake really affected me. Because it was a drama, though, it didn't really affect me while I was watching it -- it was kind of diluted by the stagey acting (which was probably a good thing.) But I didn't sleep at all, and even this morning I need to shake off this funk somehow.
It was interesting to be reminded of post-quake life -- the guess-the-magnitude game after every aftershock, I can remember a shake when I was out to dinner with friends, putting money on the table in a crazy quake sweepstake. Good times...
A couple of times last night I was able to pinpoint when the people were 'over it', that's a horrible feeling which I'd rather not relive.
It was strange to get the other perspective of Lyttelton being cut off -- since Lyttelton was reported as the epicentre, it must have been rough for people in Christchurch with family in Lyttelton, but for us it was the other way around -- we saw the CBD decimated on TV, so we felt quite lucky, although we couldn't help much with the tunnel closed for so long.
I still have a travel pass for the road tunnel signed by the commander of the Canterbury, that's a weird thing I never thought I'd see.
The characters in the drama were quite surprising, more of a Jaffa's view of Christchurch people, although maybe that's probably more realistic than my idea of who lives here. I know that Christchurch was known for it's skinheads, but really I've never met anyone like those characters.
I might just record part 2, and watch it when I'm feeling braver, ie a sunny Sunday afternoon with a couple of beers in me.

Next week is going interesting , 'should be directed at Lyttleton' and again stepping back and forward in till all hell breaks loose ..... as for those "skinheads" I have met people like that .... honestly - that is what they are like ! and worst !
Posted: Thu Jul 10, 2014 6:00 pmI have Been so busy last couple of days , for those who missed it , We maybe see a DVD copy , funny had good friends recon it was a bit wishy washy regard to the acting , and a few area's .. funny one neighbour may have got his name to .. well least his back on NZTV camera , not as exciting as the day .. to many sad , I was Lucky .. but tonight , TV3 at 8.30

Too many unrelated side stories, terrible acting and just in general, a massive let down!

It had more meaning and some understanding and countdowns and relevance in the first .. last night was I was dissappointed .. another "Neighbours" type , should have had content such as the story of the defence force and emergency services ... just seem to suck out and go the typical type potty drama.
