Another big day today ... but , it had its classic moments.
I got another contract trucky on my site today , good guy with a nice truck.
Anyway , he turns up at 0600 this morning , and the conversation went like this ...

Me: Morning
Him: Yawn
Me: Looks like rain
Him : yep
Me: Your from the coast?
Him: yep
Me: where on the coast ?
Him: Stillwater
Me: nice place?
Him: yep
Me : Ive got about 200 tonnes to move between you and 4 others , could be a big day.
Him: could be.
Me: You dont say too much do you.
Him: no
Him: couldn't pinch a smoke ?
Me: yep
Him: fix ya up

Makes a change from the "talk for talking sake" crowd that i normally get stuck with.... we moved 230 ton of demo waste, 30 truck loads. .... big day.

Its hard isnt it .... the coaster was good ... basic info , he knew what he had to do (and did it well) But some of the others ! bloody hell ! "good morning " is an invite to the family history laugh.gif (and then they talk to you on the radio ... about nothing) great guys though , would be really dull if we were all the same.
Owen ... I'll get your book away to you asap ... my bad.

Marty....Your fantastic conversation reminds me of the conversations between the Police officer and some of the local inhabitants (North Dakota) in the Film " Fargo".... laugh.gif ....
..I suspect they were originally Dutch/Scandinavians?

He made a change from the "I'll email you what we just said on the phone " types .... even though his desk is 3 feet away from mine ... angry.gif
I have NO time for these ladder climbing corporate gits , and never will have . If you cant DO the job , then butt out , and leave it to those who can .... directed by those who have !
Yes ,i know we need people at the top , but it would be nice to know they came up from the bottom .... like the old days.
And i guess thats the the point ... the old days ... oh well , whatever .

Long time ago, I did a Basic Supervision course at tech college. It was very useful.
Main point: "The hallmark of a good supervisor is technical knowledge"
That does not mean you hafta be an ace welder, qualified pressure vessel welder or whatever - it just means you need a clear understanding of what those jobs require, and the time needed to do them properly.
And of course, you need to be able to distinguish between work, and productive effort.

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Yip .. the jokes we invented with this twit , trouble was first part 'He was a friggen floor manager' so called foreman .. was not to bright , biggest thing he got away with it because had a history with the owner of the company , some off the things I witnessed I would not even let free with "play doe".
