There we are .. took near 30 minute to post simply cos server not found .. Telecom was like that in the years back ..... hence the change to Telstra-Clear , now bought out by Vodaphone .. It is going to be interesting to here what the teckie has to say Friday morning , ....

.... I do wonder how small business is effected by these continuous drops ?

I'm gonna assume the techie is a Chorus technician. Those guys are pretty onto it. We've had this talk before but I'm gonna tell you again, I would look at switching back to telecom. They ain't the same as they were when you had issues. Yes their main call center is the Phillipines but you can just refuse to deal with them and insist on speaking to the AUCKLAND based broadband team if you need support. It's worked for me and I don't get lag, I don't get time outs (despite the current issue with their emails servers) and I am now on my own port on the roadside box 10 ports away from anyone else on my street giving me no interference....

You also mentioned your box was hit, yeah this could definitely cause a problem, will cause mass interference which will mess up your connections stability. But I've told you once, and I'll tell you again Ian, Vodafone ain't worth it. You NEED to look at options. Here in NZ we are limited for options but Vodafone isn't the lesser of 2 evils. I would start doing some research because you really need to change...

Here's the breakdown.

Telecom own everything.

Vodafone lease off Telecom and use their network but give their customers less bandwidth and technical support.

Orcon, Slingshot, Paradise, and pretty much everyone else lease from Vodafone at a lower priority to VF customers so get less bandwidth/support, which goes back to Vodafones lease and previous statement...

Telecom is also currently being brought to heal by the government due to not opening the lines and shitting on their leasee's but the bottom line is, the best network availability in NZ is actually Telecom because they pretty much own all the gear and the lines (It's just if you need support, refuse point blank to speak to the Philippines and demand to speak to the AKL broadband team, it can be done, they are the only ones I deal with) I only got to that level of service by literally destroying 5 front line CSR's and 2 supervisors in the Philippines before they transfered me and I got the direct dial number but hey, whatever works (Trouble with them was I used to work as an Xtra tech support so I knew their system backwards, they had no chance from the get go)......

Well we will find out .. up to a .. well now six months back I had a superb connection ... pre that I was with Telecom and the service was bloody horrid - saying again ... this going back pre cable and the service was atrocious , when it was Telstar-Clear everything worked without glitch's ... Obviously since the de-bungle of the com lines and company buy outs they are having a little play ....

Telecoms service was 'Shite' hence the reason I went to Telstra .. now its Voda .. international corporates playing little games ..... wonder if Little Kimmy dut commy .. Ill put this to the techie .. and find out the next best reconnect the other way ... customer service is up and down like a YO YO .

Similar situation here in Oz. The third-level ISPs like Virgin, Voda and various others leased bulk bandwidth from Optus and retailed it to their customers. Trouble was Optus had oversold its capacity (just like the airlines do) and as the 3rd level customer base went up, the performance went down and even Optus customers were affected. A good example of how faulty statistical analysis can send a business broke. The one that owns the infrastructure will always win the game.

Thanks Mike, Not so strange and one other thing that did not help (or maybe they did) was drop kick neighbours taking out the junction box directly in front off my home, .. funny since I complained 24 hours back .. its almost like - GIVE THIS FELLA PRIORITY , hmm we will see during the day .. least next 48 hours.

Pretty much right on the money for here too. You can only lease so much from Supplier A, then you as Supplier B only have so much to lease and when you keep subleasing your network to more and more customers it starts dropping out for everyone simply due to over crowding and nowhere near enough capacity while provider A still has plenty of room and sits there laughing at everyone. It also comes down to the type of equipment you give your customers too (How cheap are the routers your flogging off etc). All the telco's here use really cr@p routers to their clients. Best thing is to buy and configure your own from a computer store.

Strange hour stable internet connection is currently, hope this keeps up ... weird thing , bring in a tech jock tomorrow morn and say nothing is wrong ... I posted this as and for proof after yesterdays debacle .. maybe there is a problem with the box outside ? .. we will find out .

WELL WE ARE off again ! .. automatic machine telephone call again .. YIP , this time I will call them VODAFONE , I finally got a New Zealand help desk, .... instead of a "Oh Jolly Blimey it is your fault" good thing I had complaints record number - THAT was not even needed .. they have been tracking it .. this is were I finally got one in Auckland and a Kiwi girl RIGHT ! ... WHOOPS that was after I said been thru this pooh before!

Automatic machine call said I was required to pay ............ $58.69
Contacted VF.. I was on the phone moneys required is ...$156.75

I questioned this AGAIN and asked , How how has this charges and increased again ! ... following a 'Marty' tip, .. I simply asked do you have the telephone number to the 'Commerce Commission' .. BOY! that really got things cooking ! .. I am still to go thru the new deal , what they are going to service me with , ...

Monthly Bill with new super high speed modem and connection and landline and able to call anyone in the country (not that I need it) - limited to 5 per month plus extra bandwidth NOW only for $69.90 .... So will be interesting to follow up.

Ole VODAFONE really are doing the dancing lesson so lets see if they perform !

Today had the techie here putting in the modem , So now it is a wait to check next months billing , least I keep name and address.
