What a tragedy ..... i cant begin to imagine how the family members of those killed are feeling. You head off to work , and by morning tea time your dead.
I wonder what tipped that guy over ? I understand he had a beef with Winz .... but ....
But i guess it could be anyone of us ( on the bad end) the world is a sad/ bad place at the moment , and i really believe its not going to get any better.

I went into WINZ with, the an idea month back, hells current they are looking after me , went in to see if they had other avenues and expand, just probing mission .. I took folders and art port folios in - when opened it was pleasing for the staff , mentioned more than welcome to have a look, Security fellas nodded their heads .... Think it made the day for them.

I guess it is therapy for both me but for them as well to see what I'm trying to achieve and getting results or least have something to offer ..

But you do get the Nutters ... and hells, that was an example the reason why security in these places is needed .... I'm pleased I walk in and give peoples a smile or the asking if they can have a look at the latest .

Ive been there in the past as well Ian (Winz) ..... but , an unarmed Security person ... and a pissed off person with a shotgun , its going to end in tears.... and blood in this case.
I have nothing but good things to say about them (Winz) when i needed them , they were superb ... in the end i had to tell them to let me go .
Its just sad that this guy got to a point that he had to do what he did ..... "nutter" maybe .... lost .... almost certainly, maybe its the same i dont know.

The fact that they got him alive makes me think he didn't know what was going on , no excuse for what he did ... but who knows what went on in his "Brain case "

This one went to Australia looking for the big bucks - seriously failed .... I know off one early 1990s , sold a house here in the NZ and he was with a family!!! ? .. on his failed return ended up getting a job for a little while in engineering company I was with for 27 years - component design and course machining - , how the hell he got the job - a process worker maybe, I don't no but fact was he was under the illusion he was in big dollar, ... would have been good at farming I guess .

Not sure what your saying there fella , but i think the word " illusion " is well placed ..... he had one Im sure.
Its just sad that 2 people are dead as a result of it .
Again , Im not backing this guy in any way shape or form , far from it , but i cant help feeling we missed him somehow.... as in , not reading the signs.
Anyway, he will be away for sometime (as he should be)

Marty's U-Tube link brought up a song by Clearwater Revival for me....

After a Google WINZ search I thinks this is what it is all about...>>> http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/farmer-hel...-gunman-6068672

Our first thought over here in England is;...."Oh No!...not GUNS again!"... sad.gif ...Shades of the U.S. NRA....!

The irony here is that he now gets accommodation and 3 meals a day plus medical care.....which is what he was after.
Unfortunately I suspect that these tragedies will continue to occur as the wealth gap widens, govt support services (especially mental health) budgets continue to get tightened and the hopelessness and despair of these individuals reaches breaking point. They have nothing to lose.

Your right there Steve, got his accommodation problem fixed .. This person knew what he was doing because after the shootings why did he run ! .... that dose prove the point it was his on personal scrap with authority and where was the twit going to go ... he would now be in a worst position had he got away into the bush and was manhunted , certainly not RAMBO was he .

Police were called to the Blenheim Winz office this morning after a caller rang Winz and told them he was armed and would be visiting them shortly.
Probably another mental nut idiot playing games to tie up the police and interrupt the Winz office for the day.

Thats not good big D . I just hope it wont start a trend ..... not good at all. I have a mate who works with police dogs , and he was telling me , it was the dogs that got this guy (two i think)
This guy had a bit of form , but it seems he had other issues as well. As i said last night , no excuse for killing two people .... but , if hes a few cans short of a six pack, then it moves to another level.
Death penalty wont solve anything .... if we go that way , we become just like the "other" thorn in my side , i wont name them , but go to mecca and you will find a few.

Guys, don't let this topic deteriorate into a slinging match of those for and against capital punishment or anything like that. It detracts from the sorrow and regret that we might have for those people in Ashburton (and no doubt elsewhere) who have been directly affected by this tragedy.

Thanks chaps.

Sorry Greg and Marty , I get bloody so angry at the dumbness off the law, no need for the prove on this one - they all blame and use the metal health issue ... and good example off how anti social these types are ... Well - I had a flux of Murderers and really Vicious Pricks next door for two years , you would think warn once twice and three times by the Police, the entire street was on lock down last December - the list of trouble and people hit by degenerates stealing and threatening in a ... Well I'm in a super nice area and a street 400 meters long !

Once Killed - you cannot say "whoops that was not spose to happen ".... and the one who did it thinking whats for Dinner tonight !

Know what it's like to live with a mental health issue? I do, every day. It's not something that "gets used". It's something people have to live with, and try to manage. That gets harder and harder when you can't get the help you need. And it's not easy to do even when you can get the help you need....

I know its drifting a little bit off subject, but as I am a keen watcher of the various TV reality series; 'Cops', 'Cops reloaded', 'Jail', 'Bait Car', etc, to observe what happens in the the U.S. between the police forces and the 'criminal' society....

...every now and again 'Police Ten-7' pops up, showing the live interaction between the NZ Police and the New Zealand society.

And its areal eye-opener for me as I sit watching the screen with my mouth open!

The U.S. 'criminals' mostly appear to be a sad, sorry, drunk, drug-driven lot, mostly incapable of standing up....

Whereas the NZ lot (mostly Maori's by their appearance) appear to be at violent war with the police force, with a never-ending barrage of obscene, foul language of a special type, used in particular by Maori's!

There is definitely something going on between the original incumbents on the Southern Lands, and the later new-comers. Not a happy state of affairs, to my mind.

The NZ cops seem to take it all in their stride, whereas in the U.S. (and here) that would instantly be a bookable offence (disorderly conduct) and carted off to jail.

How the NZ cops cope with it beats me...They seem to take it in their stride!

To me, it indicates a worrying side of New Zealand... a lot of community street violence going on!

Paul.....A keen observer of society..... winkyy.gif ....!

Paul , we see the behavior world wide now, for starters once caught and put behind bars lawyers and people right activists go out off there way to get them out .... David Bane would be a classic .... gets a pardon, but hang on , he may not have killed the family which appears to be proven - BUT who the killed father who killed the family - David Bane .

When I had the convicts next door, off the eight that went thru three off them ending backup in prison for violence , and late April after I finally had any convict source removed late March, the Police still turned up in droves simply the convicts lied about were they where ...... now six months on the entire street seems relaxed and everyone looking out for everyone .
