It's quite funny how subtle changes come about over time, especially with developments in technology, it can be a bit freaky for people my age, who have been used to doing things the same way for half a century:)
Some time over the last few months I've stopped using cash. I didn't realise this until Thursday when I was walking to visit my grandkids, and I popped into the local prefab dairy in Sydenham, and bought a dollar can of pepsi. I had a dollar in my pocket, but I realised that it had been there on its own for a long, long time. So it was a bit of a major thing, almost gone by unnoticed.

The weird thing is my wallet is fatter than it's ever been. driver's license, EFTPOS, credit cards, supermarket, library and metro cards, not to mention the THREE medical emergency cards and ID cards which my doctors swear are necessary.

So I think that the next big thing is going to be a single multi-purpose card. These are already starting to appear, and normally this sort of news wouldn't even register for me, but I do think that investing in a company which was developing these things would be a really good idea.

Clever title considering the subject matter.
I've noticed that around here as well. I've only encountered one (temporary) establishment within the past couple of years which didn't accept cards or other forms of electronic payments. I still try to carry a reasonable amount of cash on me for emergencies, or at locations where I'm not entirely comfortable using a card due to identity theft (there's a trend going around involving tampering with parking garage payment systems, ATMs, and similar), but in general, it's an electronic payment most of the time. (Can even pay from my phone at certain establishments if needed, and can leave literally everything at home).

These days, I do most money things over the internet or by card, so I very rarely have cash on hand, unless I am going to a farmers' market or the like. That has some odd consequences - the Salvos came round once on their annual doorknock. I apologised that I couldn't give anything because I hadn't any money, and the lady asked me if I needed any help laugh.gif
