Interesting times...

Well, there is plenty of food, enough coolant, and even if it does flood and cut off the town, we can still walk to the pub - we have a choice of two for about 400 residents.

I am a storm watcher myself .. sport watching ... fif fa fa farrr Cricket ... BORING :sleepy: .. give me some weather watch any day of the week ! B-)

We will get the fringe of it, so there will be heavy rain, and a flood is likely, although I expect the 'normal' knee-deep one, not the chest-deep one of 2011.
Very unusual to get a cyclone so far south this late in the season, and of course Cat 5 is really exceptional - folk in Central Qld will be hit hard.

Strange thing here Mike, the weather .. normally we get good electrical storms but this year has been a fizzler .. I'm not keen on knee deep come to think chess deep water but I do like watching the storms roll in.

Details of Severe Tropical Cyclone Marcia at 5:00 am EST:

Intensity: Category 5, sustained winds near the centre of 205 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 285 kilometres per hour.

Location: within 9 kilometres of 21.8 degrees South 150.5 degrees East, estimated to be 120 kilometres east northeast of St Lawrence and 150 kilometres north of Yeppoon.

Movement: south at 16 kilometres per hour.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Marcia, category 5, is expected to continue moving in a southerly direction towards the Queensland coast, and make landfall between St. Lawrence and Hervey Bay later today.

A separate Severe Weather Warning is current south of Double Island Point and inland to eastern parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt.

Might fire up the An-2 and practice my flying backwards skills :idea:

Seems to be heading out to sea again. On the radar, my place is on the horizontal axis, below the M of Marburg and a bit to the left of the A in Amberley.
(But you won't see me, cos I've got my tinfoil hat on :nahnah: )
