These are always a good test of how I'm getting on at different stages after the earthquake, but obviously four years on things haven't improved much -- I still bawled like a baby for an hour. Quite well done, just those involved talking, and although there was plenty of 're-enactment' in slomo, which seems to be all the rage these days, it didn't detract from the simple story.
The thing which hit me the most was the reminder of how vibrant and lively the CBD used to be, I can't imagine it ever getting to that stage again.

I'll would like see that later, I do like following up on this .. gone WOBBLYVILLE .. now back to Christchurch.

With my daily Sim Flying in California for the past 15 years, and the daily follow-up of their local news, including earthquake reports, it seems that the Folks in NZ certainly get their share of some pretty bad ones!

Its not a happy time when living directly on a Fault Zone!

Don't forget the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, I still remember the images of that one, including the collapse of the upper deck of the Bay bridge. Just like none of us will forget the images of 4 years ago here.

But for me the strongest images aren't of the devastation, it's of the people just getting stuck in rescuing people, helping people, clearing stuff away and just basically doing something, not just standing around. Guess that goes back to the old days when if something happened help was 6mths away by sailing ship so you had to do something, seems to have stuck with us kiwis

I didn't watch it .... maybe i should have . But at least once a day i "replay" those Feb 22 memories after all these years.
Still wake up at the slightest thump or bump .... and I'm still (this maybe a form of OCD ) storing water in the shed , tinned food in the car along with other perceived survival essentials
I don't mind admitting, I've been on edge ever since the quake (feb) and its not a good way to live ... always looking (me anyway) at , if that falls over it will hit this ... so i better ... blah blah ... not good.

Until i started writing this , i didn't realise how much I was affected ... tend to keep it under a lid . As you know my place was completely trashed (twice) .... broke in half , liquefaction almost to knee height in 3 rooms etc etc.
But we got through , some didn't , and that's sad.

I'm still waiting for the Royal commission of inquiry into the complete bungling of the recovery.
4 years and some folks are still awaiting action and living in demo homes.
Politics and incompetence...... a symbiotic relationship if ever there was one.

For me, it's important to face this now and then, just to gauge my reaction... a docu like this helps me, I can get some pent-up stuff out. And you are right, some didn't get through, so it might be the right time for me to be thankful for the fact that my family and I did get through.

California is a very shaky area!

I follow these various quakes on the news as they happen, and then overfly the areas in my Flight Sim, and Google Sat Maps.

I remember following the Loma Prieta Quake in the news as it happened. The collapsed 2-tier Bay Bridge...>>

We get a few tiny little shakes, on very rare occasions, here in England.
Most folks don't even notice it.

Its just the usual, miserable, Winter weather at the moment that we suffer....waiting for Spring to arrive... ...!

I remember being in Los Angeles and we got hit by a 6. I was diving for the door and screaming EARTHQUAKE!!!! My room mate looked at me as if nothing happened and said "What???" Apparently they don't move for anything less than a 6.5

We saw on the news the other night back, a couple finally got conformation that their house, they finally agreed its a write off ... trouble is they go directly back to the bottom of the heap, now that is crazy.

You crazy guy but , i do think you have more chance than i do of hearing that

With all due respect , i don't care about quakes anywhere else .... if you weren't here in September or February , you have no idea what it was like , and i hope you never do.
Just bloody awful .... my place is still moving , everyday i watch a crack in the "repaired" bathroom wall get bigger .....I watch the back yard still sinking , after all this time.
I'm a " get over it" kind of personality , but i don't mind admitting, I cant get over this.... and i don't wont to talk about it anymore.
