Forgot to tell you ... i got stopped in a police checkpoint earlier this evening . Went over to check on dear old mum at about 1645 , as per normal at 1700 the pre dinner gins are taken (she eats at 1800)
Because i was on my way to the airport i had 2 , about 30 minutes apart , thought about a third , but decided no to , and had cheese and crackers instead.
Anyway , picked up from the flight , dropped one off in avonhead and headed toward the city .... and there in the middle of the suburbs (almost a back street) .... the cops , lots of them ...with a big bus/truck.
I was approached by a very young looking fella (dont think he shaved yet) and asked to count to five .... which resulted in his little device beeping , and flashing the word "alcohol" ..... he became very excited, and asked me to pull around the corner and park.
Asked , had i been drinking , i said apparently so officer .... i was advised that i would be breath screened , to which i replied .. "oh ... ive never had a mammogram" ... no response He produced another thing with a tube on it , and asked me blow into it until he said stop . At which point i refused .... he asked again , and again i refused ... 30 seconds silence , then i asked him to go and get a sealed tube , open it in front of me ... and I'll blow into the bloody thing . He said he opened it as he was walking to the car .... i said .... i don't care ...get a new one , or let me talk to your boss .
Ok ... to cut it short , this fella was getting a bit agitated ... so was i , and i explained to him that i wasn't happy putting something that may be contaminated, in my mouth ...easy! So , i set off for the bus (police) .... he told me to stop! By now the sarg in charge arrived half way ... i explained , he understood ... blew the thing ... under the limit ...all done , well .... almost.
Young plod followed me back to the car , asked to see my licence , checked the rego and wof , all good .. and then he said "ive got your number smart arse" ...... that was it , out of the car ... back to the bus, with my witness , find the sarg , ..... anyway , its ongoing .
Down to central in the morning to have a chat .
I know its not much ... and im glad the police are out there doing this (in fact i wish they would do more) ... but i will NOT be spoken to like that , by someone who more than likely wasn't even born when i was 30 something.... perhaps i could have been more clear from the outset ...but he could have asked .

P.S I made sure i got his number as well .... keep you posted.

Sounds like the young guy is in need of a bit of training, which hopefully he'll get. In reality, there isn't much difference between a young, testosterone-fuelled copper and a young thug, so you have to respect them when they do their job well, but it must be hard to go from front-line stuff, with the risk of violence, to dealing with 'normal' folk, who may be an unknown quantity after a few too many drinks. It would take a lot of experience to be able to make the switch.

Some of the scariest people I've know are young cops, even some friends of mine (a long time ago), who can get overly hyped when confronted by things off-duty. But with a few years maturity, most do an amazing job.

Marty - I recommend keeping a diary in your vehicle and noting every police stop involving you (or your vehicle, with another driver) from here on. Then you can approach the appropriate authority, and tell them that you have been driving for 40-odd years and never had so much as a parking ticket, but since this poorly-trained officer spoke those words, you have been pulled over 20 times and the vehicle 28, or whatever, with no charges resulting.
I don't know if your police record video of every stop, so there will be no 'evidence' to confirm what the junior officer said. Most mobile phones provide a voice recording facility and so long as you tell the other person beforehand that you are going to record the conversation, you are breaking no law.

True Rob ... and as i said , i could have , and should have made my concerns clear earlier to the young fella .
Im over it , Im sure he is as well ... so when i front up in the morning , I'll let it go .
In fact ... in hindsight , i should have just let him do his thing ... make him feel good , if not for his "I've got your number" thing .... cant let that go sorry.
But im still not happy about blowing down a second hand tube thing ....which it could have been

I really don't think it will amount to much , and if it did , this would be in my favour ..... but it wont, cant.... it was really nothing , just old grumpy fart meets wanna be robocop

...and I cant make up my mind whether the NZ Cops, (and the Ozzy Cops), are good or bad, when I see some of the confrontations going on with the local populace!

(They do seem to have terrible problems with the indigenous species!).... ....!

Like the US Cops on CBS Reality TV Show "Cops/Cops reloaded", with their shaven, polished heads, thick necks, arm muscles, shades, and their highly visible tattoos, most of the Cops look more like the criminals they are supposed to be catching.

Excellent way to beat the crap out of someone, under cover of; "The Law".

I take great care not to come into contact with Cops....trust me!... ....!

Funny the Shi-iit they put up with, I recon I was put on the "get rid off him bucket list" because every time I got a rude gesture from convicts next door I phoned the Police , in the two years the convicts were here next-door I did get I did get one newbie copper and was not European but seemed to side with the convicts , they were making up stories and saying I was the Shi-iit stirrer , on them leaving I phoned Police and was asked to go in Christchurch to file a formal complaint , .... funny how things changed along the entire street .

I suppose you've got to be real lucky where you live...

I seem to have always been lucky to have lived in nice, quiet, peaceful areas where "criminals" never seem to surface....

But I'll tell you a place where you don't want to live....

...if you thought that down-town Los Angeles was bad enough, just make sure you never go anywhere near East 'frisco Bay; Oakland, Alameda, and Richmond.
A nastier/deadlier set of mixed-race individuals you will have difficulty finding anywhere else!

Funny thing Paul, they call it 'clean green and safe NZ' but for such a small population base appears to be a magnet for violent crime most only because parents root away because have nothing better to do , end up with kids they don't feed or look after them then they turn into your worst nightmare - this bleeds into every society, .... there is a area and street in Christchurch , Aranui, Hampshire Street , a breeding ground for the worst .... I guess the housing would be cheap .

Had my catch up with the with the police.
All good , the young guy wasn't there , but one of the check point guys was , and a senior sergeant .
Turns out i wasnt alone, pc "ive got your number" had upset someone else before me .
He was going to have a review , and i was assured that "this isn't how the police want to look"

I left feeling that ...somehow , they (the police) had done me a favour ... hard to explain , but the whole thing seemed automated ...and almost a nuisance , anyway , its done .

Regard to my experience at the new 'Christchurch Police Central' , I pulled the paper work from the my many attacks and grievances , things got done or appeared to done real quick and with a great result , .......... , good thing I got a couple personal visits from a senior sarge checking up on us .... end off the day you should not have to put up with from the start.

And safe either , they still like to pedal the logo tho .... just across the road I watched Chinese tourist doing there thing ... one particular had a package size of something .. screwed it up and thru into the bush ... then before climbing on the bus had some hand wipes and did the same .
