Going to be fun to find out the outcome , least sleep-head , maybe more to the story and that as an excuse.

Many moons ago i was doing a ground run in a b737, my job was in the electronic bay and had to push a few buttons as part of the test. When the aircraft was taxied back to the hangar they shut down the power and headed in for tea... i was getting a bit worried that i was going to be in there the next morning for the first flight of the day! I was lett out eventually to much laughter on their part...

John, guess there were a few workers out there at the time , Gary Young was a ANZ newbie regular , I'm guessing around your time out at Christchurch , trainee engineer .

When i started there were around 700 all. In those days around 25 to 30 apprentices were taken on each year. Garry started a couple of years after me.

I was thinking off joining the apprenticeship, but each time got butted because in the wrong place at the wrong time, in the end a lot off work come to the engineering firm here in Sockburn making bits and pieces for 737s , opportunity to crawl thru the avionic bays on the 727 when they first arrived and many other parts for other types.
When you have 700 peoples , 25-30 newbies guess I lot get washed out , be very hard to keep track off who's who . It will be interesting to follow up on the worker in the cargo hold... maybe the he should have been washed out.

Yeah, i too did a fair bit of time on the b727 when they first arrived, also the 100 series f27 conversions for the RNZAF, and the rest of the usual ANZ fleet... good times

Good times alright , still had security , but once with that gold card , being able to go almost anywhere , ... today its only a 'Homer Simpson' deal and only aloud in "sector 7G' thanks to the tourists

I heard that a guy fell asleep inside a fuel tank of a Herc in another country and when they were trying to start it up a few months later the engine had problems and that was because someone had died inside the fuel tank. Although it is a rumour but from what I understand most fuel tanks don't have such access so its just one of those weird rumours that float around.

Rumour

, the smaller engineers get inside tanks - if asked - , in little white suit and are tagged , they were/are connected to breathing gear but the practice is only done when the cell/tank is removed from the aircraft , prototypes and builds were famous for that, but today the practice is not done , least I hope so , things have changed ..... but to find a human carcass stewed in a C130 tank .. I would not think so.

Well i am 185cm tall, and i wormed my way into a b737 tank on an overnight check to change a couple of suspect tank probes... worst job i ever did i reckon, stunk of fuel for days!!! I must have been a bit skinnier in those days

Don't worry John 'Johny boy' ... Marty keeps calling me the 'Skin man'

... ..... ..... maybe I should not jump into a airplanes gas tank to check
