Mayo - the only condiment that shares its name with a specialist cardiac clinic - I wonder why?

I used to go into work, every second day or just about it was a over sized Bacon and Egg onion and tomatoe .. two off them , all the big boys there turned around said I was a candidate for high cholesterol and cardiac problems ... after the tests I have been thru , found that was big fat Zero with the cholesterol and told have perfect and good and strong heart .. maybe I need to add some off that Canadian Mayo

Well, butter and margarine have been switching between healthy and fatal since I was a teenager...eggs were good for you then, and so was whole milk. Then they invented cholesterol and we had to stop eating seafood, eggs, and whole milk products. Next thing the marketing people came up with Omega-3s, and seafood was back on the healthy menu. Just last month I read that whole milk is now good for you - it lowers BP and helps with Type2 diabetes. That is very annoying because after 20-odd years of "healthy" eating, including skim milk, I now have both conditions.
So these days I practice moderation - and that includes being moderately teetotal as well as taking any advice from the health industry with a large pinch of salt.

I think the general problem that all medical thing's with food is the obesity problem which has hi-lighted it even more, you walk in the malls today and see these kids with the largest Hamburger and the kid is more or less round and hardly fits on the seat ... then see the parent come up with two trays off fries ... so the problem explodes from there.

Bigger seats, problem solved...

Yeah, emf, at some point you need to recognise all the hype as someone, somewhere, making more money. I think that 'moderation' is the enemy of marketing, so you won't see that offered as a solution by anyone except the weirdos who have no financial interest in it, such as nutritionists and health nuts. Not doctors, though.

Moderation is difficult, because with some things it means 'barely any'. To be safe, I eat very little meat, eggs, and dairy -- although I'm non-dairy mainly because it upsets my gut. I drink soy, which has it's own scary effects (man-boobs, anyone?) and I generally prefer eating less than low-fat. I am aware of the dangers of sugar, but again I won't give it up, just be very aware of where it is coming from.

Alcohol is another thing which I've found you need to restrict to the extent that it can be a problem for some -- I can't drink socially any more, because people I drink with tend to consume the equivalent of my entire month's alcohol allowance before they bring out the nibbles...

That is another problem as well, a social drink is one were I recall stopping at the few water holes .... "Bigger seats, problem solved..." I saw a guy up in the Amberley local hanging stopped with my brother, this would have been 12/12.30, this chap wodels in less than 45 minutes he had cleaned up two jugs and as we were leaving he was onto his third , I said to Neil, the chap was either very thirsty or , Neil then said nah come in 10.30 this evening and he would still be there .... now that's not social drinking

Summer Salad Days.....
the would Summer Stewed days

Got out of bed this morning (always very grateful for that) and weighed myself, as I regularly do, and even with all the tasty meals that I prepare and cook for myself zillions of times a day, I weighed a healthy 154 Lbs/11 stone (5'-7" height...and shrinking).
Blood pressure 110/72. Heart rate 62BPM...(just this minute checked it).

Things I avoid whenever possible...SALT, SUGAR, FATS, ...and strange women...especially fat ones...

I reckon I'm doing alright.... ...!

Paul.... :D ...!

P.S... Strange Women will be the death of you....Trust me!... :wink2: ...1
