Road trip
Posted: Wed Jun 10, 2015 8:34 pmI felt the need to clear my head today , so along with another gent .... we went for a drive.
Originally it was going to be north , but for some reason we turned south , and south we went .
Headed to SH1 via leeston , coffee in Ashburton. On to timaru for a look at the port and airport (which was locked up.... no body there)
At this point the navigator "remembered" a short cut thru to geraldine ....after 15 mins (on a great bit of road) , things didn't look right , we were heading south west ... the wrong way.
Pulled over in the middle of nowhere and fired up the gps on my phone .... sure enough ...30ks from farlie .... too far south for me , so we did a 360 and headed for a point the gps said we could cross to geraldine.
Arrived there , ready for a pie and more coffee . 3Omins later away again via the back road past Mt Hutt and into the rakaia gorge ...... pretty nasty out there , nor west , rain ..... but beautiful clear blue to the east.
A quick run past the airport to check any activity on 029 , but sadly nothing , even tho the sock was pointed at the hills .... back to town in all the bloody traffic , and home .
A damm good day in all ... now we sit back and wait for the speed camera letters to arrive
It was so nice to get away from the tank trap style roads in chc at the moment , and just open the taps on a (well several) dead straight , traffic free, 10km stretch of bump free tarmac.
A Little irresponsible i know , but ..... my goodness it was fun. I really believe that a few positive G's are good for the heart .
I do recall approaching a hawk (at the speed limit) snacking on road kill and wondering which way he was going to take off ...... (and if i would hit him) he didnt!....... he did the math , kept eating , and saw us pass buy at ... the speed limit, that was one stauch hawk.
All in all , a great day .... now Im ready to deal all the the b/s.
Im sorry that this post wont mean anything to our foreign members , and maybe even some from the north ... as in place names etc.
