Power to the sim

Actually it was quite the opposite today. Today I was conducting my sim check at Auckland and during the half time tea break all the power to Auckland airport ceased.
That meant every simulator we have also stopped dead....and there are quite a few of them now. They don't like it when that happens and nor do the hand full of sim engineers that need to reboot them. It's like Armageddon for them.
The 767 sim was low on the reboot priority list (takes 30 min if it's rebooted after a proper shutdown and restart) and a few hours later when they tried the visuals were not working so we had no choice but to can the detail and the guys following on from us as well. Not good as lots of disruption all around.
It also means that tomorrow I cant do my 2nd sim detail in the Qantas sim in Sydney.
When it goes bad it goes very, very bad.

But it gets better CP , I know what your saying ..... but it gets better.
I know i shouldn't generalize , when your problem was very specific .

We had felt the hiccup as well. UPS and backup generators kicked in so luckily the coffee machine was still online. And the radar too but you have to check the essentials first :radar:

One thing, I was not allowed to do was to land the Redifon 737 flight simulation back in the early 80s due to the cost of having to reboot it on a crash do to time and personal , I'm seriously pleased the Coffee machine was not in trouble tho .

One thing tho .. I did not loose the touch , landed a 737-800 into Wigram without a problem :)

I was always of the view that we had back up generators/UPS as well....but apparently I was wrong. Yeah I could imagine that another radar hiccup would have sent the "media" into a frenzy.

Very surprised to hear about the lack of UPS/generator, maybe there's just too much grunt there, what with all the hydraulics and what not?

On a similar note when the power went off all the ground handlers in the domestic area started wohooing as they didn't have to work.....

On my last check we had a few issues with the hydraulics leaking so the sim tech came out and casually mentioned that little bits OK there's only 900 more liters in there
