My brother Richard stopped here this morning, went out this morning to re-licence for tour bus driving , hes been in the building industry now for well over 25 years. They have gone bloody mad, I have on the work site for 6 ta 8 months pre General Cable, the speed and the work and his know is amazing and the results .. If you want double glazing done on your home ... Super highly recommended , I should know got my place done years back.

changed the rules so much on what you are allowed to do , OSH have really gone Political Correctness mad .... bloody idiots and little Hilters (Ricks words)

- When he arrives at a the company he dose contract work for, rather than just going into shop to pickup the double glaze , he now has to sign in.

- But first he has to put on workboots and dayglo clothing to even enter the factory which is no different than picking up your stuff from a Miter10

- When he arrives a worksite (normal a private persons home), he then is forced to spend time put up signage , this is a OSH worksite.

- He is now only aloud to use a 3 step ladder before, after that scaffolding has to be put in place with wall barriers on a single level house.

- All his power tools now have to ticked every three month ... other word a warrant ... even for the Vacuum cleaner for the jobs end, $5 for each tool.

- If the residents has kids that come home from school at 3pm , he forced to packup, bloody funny if the windows have been cutout.

- When the job is finished and the customer really enjoyed the result and offer's a six-pack or bottle of wine , not allowed to accetp it .

- On a commercial site he has to sign in to say hes there .. if he dose not have dayglo's boots or signage labling in work vehicle .. not allowed on the site.

- On leaving the worksite at the end off the day he has to phone the double glazz supplying company contracted to that he is leaving the site!

- Heres the good one - If hes dose a job for a friend and on a friends property to do the job and work he's done for those 25 years without incident and one of these little Hilters turn up at the home and Rick has reverted to his good old standard work mojo ... he can tell the inspectors to F/OFF were as if he is on a contracted site the supplier could be fined for up to 250,000 dollars.

SO If you want to understand why construction prices have gone thru the roof the above explains quite a bit ...

A fantastic read, Ian!....

Reminds me how glad I am that I retired long before The Health and Safety people, and the European Union, and the rest of the Paranoid Society, got involved in my life-long trade as a fully qualified (6-year apprenticeship) Electrical+Electronics Engineer.

I got out before all that rubbish started!

I have to laugh my socks off now when I see Council Workers mowing the grass...or just standing around in a group...and wearing Safety Helmets...like something is going to drop out of the sky onto their heads!

What a load of Cobblers!

Rules and regulations.....BAH!.... ...!

No more of that crazy stuff for me!

Paul.... :wink2: ... :wink2: ...!

Years ago folks used to die, or get injured, and they called it an unfortunate "accident".... end of story!

Its gone bloody ridiculous .. have a corporate miss management of a mine and get away with it was the problem .. I'm all for safety but ever since Pike River they gone stupid on it , I knew two that lost people there , ever since the CEO of the Pike River mine, Peter Whittall took short cuts , that caused the problem.
